Hi I'm Dave

I live in Columbus OH. I speak Japanese at work, which I learned to do from my mission in Japan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My parents raised me to be well rounded and I have interests in many things. I went to the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in History and Japanese. I currently work as a travel agent. I love music and play the guitar. I also enjoy playing video games online with friends. I've been married for almost 6 years and my wife and I are expecting our first child in April 2012.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents are converts to the Church and have had a great influence on my activity in the church. They raised me to find out for things myself and to learn about the LDS Church. I still have lots of questions, but I've come to know a few things. The first is that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. I have felt His love for me as I've tried to do what He taught in the scriptures. I have also felt His forgiveness when I've repented of sins. I know that He has and continues to be there for me when I have trials and struggles and that He does the same for everyone. I know that He loves me, and each person, regardless of our faults and weaknesses and that through Him we are able to become happier and better people. The second thing I've come to know is that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's church on the earth today. I believe that God the Father and Jesus appeared to Joseph Smith and that he was their instrument in restoring the ancient teachings and Priesthood authority. I have felt inspired by the Holy Spirit as I've carried out my responsibilities in the church. I have seen and been a part of miracles through my service in the church. I believe that the current leaders are inspired and directed by Jesus. I also believe that the Book of Mormon is scripture, the word of God. I believe that it was written by inspired prophets to help us understand more about Jesus Christ, His teachings and His sacrifice. The Book of Mormon is a tremendous help in clarifying ambiguous statements in the Bible and helping to better understand what God expects of me as I live my life. I believe that Joseph Smith translated The Book of Mormon as he said he did, "through the gift and power of God," and that the book testifies that Jesus is the Christ.

How I live my faith

I currently serve as the congregation's membership clerk. This means that I'm in charge of making sure the records of each person in the congregation is up to date. It involves keeping track of things like contact information in the event of a need, as well as recording when ordinances such as baptism are performed. In addition to my service on Sunday, I also go each month to visit a few members of the congregation. These visits are to check up on them, make sure they have the things they need, and offer assistance. I'm also the person they would contact if they had a problem or crisis so that they could have support. We believe that all members of a congregation have a responsibility to help and watch over each other. By so doing, we're able to assist those in need and make each other's lives more fulfilling.
