Hi I'm Shayla

I'm a small town girl who can easily eat ice cream for every meal and read books all day. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student majoring in English and minoring in editing. I enjoy learning new things; I also enjoy trying new things, even though I'm usually scared to do so. I love reading, writing, playing volleyball, being in nature, spending time with my family, and laughing. But, most importantly, I love the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the only way I can truly be happy is to follow Christ. I feel a deep sense of contentment, peace, and joy whenever I learn about and apply His teachings. I am a Mormon because I know I am God's daughter. Every person on this earth is His child, and He loves us unconditionally—regardless of who we are or what we struggle with or how we view ourselves. His love never, ever changes. I am a Mormon because I know the Book of Mormon contains God's words. I know there is a divine power in its pages because of the peace I feel when I read it. The Book of Mormon gives me direction and helps me to feel closer to my Heavenly Father. I am a Mormon because I know that Jesus Christ lives. I know that what the church teaches about Him is true; He came to earth and suffered because He loves us. He made it possible for me to change. He made it possible for me to repent and overcome my weaknesses. He made it possible to return to Heavenly Father's presence. He made these things possible simply because He loves us. He understands every part of our lives even more than we do ourselves. He knows our fears, hopes, joys, disappointments, accomplishments—everything. I know that He feels nothing but happiness when we turn our hearts to Him. Ultimately, I am a Mormon because I have prayed to know if the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is God's true church, and I've received an answer that it is. I know that if I continue to follow Christ and obey His teachings I will one day receive the greatest joy possible. I am constantly amazed and incredibly grateful that I have the opportunity and blessing of being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by always trying to be more like Christ. He is the perfect example. I try to obey His commandments. I read the scriptures. I pray. I try to be kind and helpful. I try to be understanding of others. It isn't easy to always do what's right, but it's completely worth the effort! When I try to be like Christ, I am filled with peace and hope and am able to feel God's love for me.
