Hi I'm Kara

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a daughter, a sister, a wife, a mother, and a child of God. I was an exchange student in high school, studied biology in college, and had a brief career in genetics. I am now a stay-at-home mom who feels like my current "career" is as important as any other that I could be pursuing. I am humbled by the role of parent every day and am grateful for the opportunity it gives me to be part of the lives of beautiful children of God. I enjoy gardening, reading, and learning with my children. I love ethnic cuisine and learning to cook wholesome food for my family. I love the changing of the seasons and the miracles of nature.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I believe in my mind and my heart that the events that happened to Joseph Smith really happened--that real priesthood authority to administer Christ's church was restored to the earth through him, and that he miraculously translated the Book of Mormon, which I know through study is another testament of Jesus Christ, along with the Bible. I am grateful to have the words of so many prophets recorded to teach me and strengthen my faith. I am a Mormon because I believe that there is a prophet on earth today who can see more than I can see and can anchor me amidst "every wind of doctrine." I am a Mormon because I am taught in the church that Jesus Christ really is the son of God the Father and is my personal Savior, without whom my life would often feel bleak and hopeless. I am a Mormon because I feel united with my fellow church-members in striving to seek and do my Father in Heaven's will for me.

How I live my faith

I teach a Sunday school class to the 9-year-olds in our congregation. This year we are studying the New Testament. I also do some of the administrative work for a program in which each woman in the ward (congregation) is teamed up with another woman to visit and watch over a few other women and their families. It is a way that we all help to "watch over the flock" and serve individual needs. I take care of my family each day and study the scriptures with them. I pray for inspiration and guidance on how to organize my time so that I can use it in the best way possible. I feel like we can all let life get too complicated and need heavenly guidance to simplify and learn to be still.
