Hi I'm Katie

I am a wife, mother, hairstylist and friend. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 3 small children who keep me busy full time. Before I became a Mom I was a Hairstylist and enjoyed doing hair and makeup. I still love to play dress up and polish my little girls' fingers. I also enjoy running, working out at the gym, yoga, zumba, and any other thing that makes up for my other favorite hobby: baking. Cupcakes, brownies, cheesecake, cinnamon rolls, you name it- and I will try to bake it. I am lucky to be married to the love of my life who is fun to be with and makes me laugh.

Why I am a Mormon

I thought about this question a lot before I chose to serve a mission for our Church. And the bottom line was that I knew that this is where I belong. I have known it for years. As a missionary in Madagascar and South Africa I found that I was able to answer questions that others had wondered for years. Questions about the purpose of life, where we go when we die, and who we will be with for Eternity. These are serious questions that many people worry about, but as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ I have been taught these principles since I was a child, and have been able to share the blessings with others. Another thing that has kept me active in the church through life's ups and downs has been the true peace I have found here. A deep sense of peace that carries me through my struggles and hard times that only comes through committed faith in our Savior. As I am now trying to raise three small children in a difficult and often scary world, I take comfort in knowing that they will have the blessings I have. If they learn to pray and rely on the Lord, trust in Him, and keep His commandments they will be happy and feel peace also. And last of all, I am Mormon because I know that The Church of Jesus Christ is true. I have searched it, studied it, lived it, and prayed about it. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, just like the Bible is the word of God. I know that we have a modern day prophet, just like Moses and Noah and the other prophets who led the church in their time. I know that Joseph Smith Jr. spoke to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know it it is true.

How I live my faith

I love living my faith. One way I am doing this is by teaching the Sunday School Class for the teenagers in our church. I love teaching them about the scriptures and helping them find answers to their questions using the scriptures and teachings of Christ. I love their energy and integrity as they face many challenges at school. I am impressed with their commitment to living morally and virtuously when many around them are not. I have been working with the youth in our church for 13 years in one capacity or another and have absolutely loved them. Another way I live my faith is by service. I served a mission for our church for 18 months in Madagascar and South Africa. I fell in love with the people and cultures. I struggled to learn Malagasy so that I could teach the people of Madagascar in their own language. I loved working hard and being worn out everyday as we shared the Gospel with our brothers and sisters in other countries. I still enjoy service and try to involve my children in opportunities to serve in our community. We were part of the National Day of Service this last September and we loved doing labor for a local business that helps children. It was a great feeling to see my 3 year old eager to participate and help out! I hope he grows up with the same compassion his Dad has, and the willingness to serve everyone.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

I think that one of the greatest blessings we receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures is a closeness to our Savior. Recently I have focused my studies on the New Testament. I hoped that as I read the actual words and works of our Savior Jesus Christ that I would draw closer to Him. This has been true! I have really seen His compassion for everyone, which helps me believe that He will have that same compassion for me. I have seen His sympathy for those He loved, which helps me know that He is sympathetic towards me. I have also read as He has reprimanded those not living the Gospel, and has reminded me that He will do the same for me if I am not following His word. I have also felt comfort as I have studied His teachings in the Book of Mormon. It is filled with tender promises and blessings. It has opened my eyes to a deeper sense of who the Savior is and why He loves us so much. Show more Show less
