Hi I'm Devon Matthews

I'm a Mormon and joined the church in 2001.

About Me

I joined the church in early 2001 when I was searching for ways to become a better person. I had made the decision to become a recovering alcoholic and began making some very personal changes to my habits and behaviors that would be more exemplary to my young kids. In November 2001, I married my best friend in the Joseph Smith Building in Salt Lake City and began my new life back in Indiana. From that point forward, I was completely motivated to become a better man. I wanted my friends, my family, my co-workers, my kids and my wife to be proud of me each and every day. I found strength in the very basic principles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Im proud to say that Im still on that straight and narrow path in life, doing all I can to exemplify the high ideals of Christ like behavior. Although I stumble frequently, I now have a large support group and the Atonement of Jesus Christ to help me refocus on my new found convictions. Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has given my life purpose and provides me the opportunity to serve others.

Why I am a Mormon

After being a Protestant Christian and Catholic for most of my life, I always felt uneasy about some of the basic aspects of my former faiths. When I began to research the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I first read President Gordon B Hinckley's book "Standing for Something" and never in my life had I felt so impressed by any religious leader. I began to understand the concept of the restored priesthood, modern day prophets, an eternal marriage and family relationships and the blessings of Temples. It didnt take long to quickly realize that the Old and New Testaments I had come to believe in over the years were enhanced by the Book of Mormon (another testament of Jesus Christ). I now enjoy having the restored gospel in my life and the blessings of being counseled by a modern day Prophet and Apostles on how to address todays challenges.

How I live my faith

I live my faith as we are all challenged to do, by committing to the law of consecration. All that I enjoy in life is a blessing from my Heavenly Father, therefore if he asks me to serve or give of my time and talents then I must do all I can to answer that call. I have enjoyed serving in the leadership of my local Ward/Branch for the past 10 years. I feel it is my duty to commit to serve my Home Teaching families every month to make sure they know they are loved by me and their Heavenly Father. I have found that the harder I work at serving others, the greater the blessings I receive in my life. This truely is an inspired life style I have committed to and I enjoy the opportunity to serve and be served by others.
