Hi I'm Monica

I'm a life-loving kind of person. I so love my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, my family and friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a single black woman working to make her way in this beautiful world in which we live. I am a college graduate in the field of Deaf Studies. I am trying to finish up an Interpreter Training Program for American Sign Language. (actually I am kind of slacking on that, but I WILL finish!) I am also thinking of going back to school for another degree in Spanish. Yes, I do love languages! I would love to travel to different countries and immerse my self there to learn the language. What a dream that would be! Right now I work in an all-girl private school. It is amazing to watch these girls learn and grow. I do not have any children of my own right now, but I was a nanny for several years. Between nannying and working I've had the privelge to be involved in the lives of many children. I love them all. I love being with people. I enjoy making sure people are happy and laughing. I think laughter is one of the best parts of this world. I hope that I do affect people's lives in a positive way. My family is another one of the best parts of my life. We are pretty close and I enjoy being with them whenever I can. I also have a big circle of best friends. I am one of those people who love hard and need a lot of love back in return. But if you are my best friend, I will try to be the best one you have in return.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the LDS church since I was a child. I have always loved this gospel and going to church. Yes, some people would say that it's because I was raised in the gospel. But as I grew, I could no longer depend on the beliefs of my parents, teachers or leaders. I had to find out for myself whether this gospel was true. I had to read my scriptures, pray and ponder about the principles I had learned and had been living. I had to test my faith; not my parent's, but my OWN! There is a promise at the end of the Book of Mormon (in Moroni 10) that says if one reads the Book of Mormon and then ask God with a SINCERE heart, REAL intent and FAITH, the Holy Spirit will manifest the truthfulness of the gospel to him/her. So I did. I read and I asked! This gospel IS TRUE! The Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon both contain words of ancient prophets testifying of our Lord and Savior. I KNOW! I know that Heavenly Father loves us. He loves us so much that He instituted a plan of happiness for us. A plan that would allow us to gain bodies, learn, live...choose Him and return to Him. I know that this higher law, these commandments and principles, are what I need to follow to show how much I love Him in return. I know that Joseph Smith was just a young man who was striving to do what God wanted him to do. I know that he was obeying God's word in the work that he did to restore the gospel to this earth! I know that Jesus Christ died for us! He died for me!!! He loves ME so much that He made the most amazing and eternal sacrifce....for me! I do not show my appreciation for His sacrifice enough. I know that I am human and will continue to make mistakes, but through Christ's infinite atonement (the Atonement was made for those who have lived, are living and will live!) I can repent of my sins and begin anew. How merciful our Father and Christ are!!!! My wish is to be one with my family forever thru the covenants I make. I pray I endure to the end!

How I live my faith

I am in the only Young Single Adult ward in my area. I have actually been in this ward for thirteen years. Yes, that IS a very long time. It's the longest I've been in any ward actually. But it is a great ward. I am a ward missionary. I am one of the first to meet those who are interested in learning about this gospel and I get to help teach it. I do not know everything, of course, but I share what I do know. I was also recently called to be a part of Compassionate Service. I am looking forward to that. I hope I learn to serve as well as Heavenly Father would knows I can. I am like everyone else...just trying to find the best way to live following the principles and teachings of Christ. He IS the example. He HAS set the path. I have the ability to choose Him or to choose the ways of the world. The world will not give me the peace, the joy that obeying the commndments will. Each of us has the ability to choose God; to choose Christ. So do it!!!!! Everyday I work at the simple things that remind me that I call myself a disciple of Christ. I try to read my scriptures and say my prayers. I try to be a good person to whomever I come in contact. I try to emulate Christ's example as well as I can. I know I will not be perfect as He was, but I strive for it.
