Hi I'm Nancy

I'm a mom, a step-mom, and a grandma. I love to quilt and tat, and I work in engineering. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up, when people asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I probably said I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom. Life doesn't always work out the way you plan it. I've always been a member of the church, and grew up in Utah, Colorado, and Virginia. I went to college at BYU and studied Clothing and Textiles, Computer Science, and Physics. That's an odd combination, but it fits me. I got my degree in Clothing and Textiles in 1987. By that time I had one beautiful daughter. Soon followed two sons. Not long after, my husband went beyond verbal abuse and was removed from our home. Two years and a divorce later I found myself as a single mother. I found a great job working in an engineering department as a designer/drafter. I'm now happily remarried and the children are grown. They're all living on their own and building their own lives. So that's my history. The other side of the story is that I'm a goofy middle-aged woman with a drive to create with fabric and thread, and a penchant for cats. I seem to need something to take care of, so when the youngest moved out, we got two cats, Morticia and Gomez. My kids call me a crazy cat lady because I enjoy their antics so much. I love to quilt. I've won awards for my quilts, but right now I'm trying to get gifts done for my son and for the next grandchild, due soon. In addition, I'm rediscovering my love of sewing, and I love to tat. My current project is a tatted altar cloth for the temple.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church. My testimony has grown line by line throughout my life. The gospel of Jesus Christ has been the greatest blessing of my life and has pulled me through the toughest times of my life. I am a Mormon because it was here that I learned that I am a child of God, that He loves and knows me, and cares deeply about me. I've felt His love in my life, especially while I was a single mom. He watches over single mothers.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm serving as the organist and choir pianist in my ward. It has been challenging, humbling, and a great testimony building experience. At the times I struggled with the music most, I have literally felt my hands directed while I've played. The rest of the time, I try to live my life the best I can. I try to treat my friends and co-workers with love and respect because I know they are also children of God, and He cares greatly about them. I try to be honest in what I do and say, and I try to be of service whenever I can.
