Hi I'm Betty Jo

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a busy stay at home mom, a college graduate with a social work degree, a wife, and a former foster kid. I love family history, learning to sew, trying new recipes and serving others. I am a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, I didn't have the "typical" family. My Grandmother was a foster mother to my siblings and me. As a teenager, I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints through the Young Women's Program (the Church's Youth program). It was at those weekly youth activies that I learned about and developed a testimony the Restored Gospel. In 2001, at the age of 18, I made the decision to be baptized and become a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The decision to join the Church changed my life forever. Since joing the Church, I, over time, have been able to compeltely change my life and the direction it was heading. One of the things about the Gospel of Jesus Christ that has really changed my life is the knowledge of Eternal Families and how important families are to the Lord. I love knowing that my family, through the blessings of Temples, can be forever and that the Lord has given us the Plan of Salvation. Having faith in and understanding that the Lord has given us the Plan of Salvation helps me know I am His Daughter and He wants me and the rest of His children to return to live with Him again. Because of the knowledge of the Restored Church of Jesus Christ, I am able to understand who I am and what my worth is to Him. This knowledge is far more valuable than any other thing I may be able to obtain in this life. Because Heavenly Father loves and cares for me He sent His Son, because Jesus Christ loves me He atoned for me and because they love me my family and I can be an eternal family.

How I live my faith

Living my Faith isn’t always easy, but the Lord makes is possible by giving me various responsibilities and opportunities to serve others. Over the years, I have served the Lord and his children in several ways He given me the chance to teach others in classes held on Sunday, I have organized activities so that church members can socialize and get to know one another, and I was able to serve a full time mission where I taught about Heavenly Father and His restored church. As a full time stay at home mother, I live my faith everyday-being an example and teaching everyday gospel living like prayer, scripture study, and obeying the commandments the Lord have given. Mostly, I try to do for others what I feel the Savior would do if he were standing in my place. These service experiences He as given me allows me to be able to understand the love He has for his children...it helps me to be able to see them as He sees them and to love them more perfectly.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Betty Jo
Personally, I LOVE the Word of Wisdom! While others of different faiths or beliefs argue that the Word of Wisdom confines us and restricts us I believe and feel the complete opposite. The Word of Wisdom sets those who follow it free. Living or following the Word of Wisdom by abstaining from those things the Lord had commanded (tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco, and other harmful or illegal drugs) truly does help us better understand and follow the promptings of the spirit. Living without these things helps us to be able to not only live better, healthier lives, it protects our families from being broken or destroyed by the grief that addiction can cause. I am eternally grateful for the commandment the Lord has given His children to follow and obey the Word of Wisdom. It has blessed me in life in ways that can not be fully explained or expressed.
