Hi I'm Olga

I grew up in Czechoslovakia. I came to believe in God while practicing yoga and embraced the Savior by reading Book of Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a communist Czechoslovakia where I lived till I was 28 years old. I got PhD; in Education at Masaryk University in Brno and came to USA later on to teach Czech language and George Washington University in Washington,DC. My favorite hobby is yoga. For over 25 years, I have been teaching and practicing yoga. I work at Yoga Director at a local yoga studio in Columbia, MD. I have recognized that yoga has been a gift to me to reach out to people and share with them how important is to create a strong both- mind and body as a foundation of a positive life. However, finding faith and the restored gospel and becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints has been the most precious gift I have received in my life. I have experienced the sense of, "I belong"- spiritually, mentally and emotionally and it means a great to me to feel "at home" that the membership in the Church has brought to me. I met here in US my husband, we live in Maryland, we have two sons. Our oldest son Dominik just has received a mission call to serve as a full time missionary in Poland, Warsaw mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was searching for meaning of life since I was a very little girl in elementary school back in communist Czechoslovakia. What I was taught at school didn't fill me inside, it didn't expand my mind and left me empty inside. I was always fascinated by people who were able to step out of their own comfort and did something that lift other people's lives. I had researched as a teenager in my local library many biographies of people who tried to make the world a better place. A great impression on me had a book of Resurrection from L.N Tolstoy. I started looking in life of Christ but didn't understand Him. When I came to study at Brno University as a teenager, I became interested in yoga and met an elderly gentleman, Mr. Otakar Vojkuvka who had a lot of books about yoga but he was a Christian, as a matter of fact, as I found later on, he was a Mormon. I wanted to know the purpose of my life, why I am here, where I am heading. As I was introduced to Book of Mormon, I was hooked, when I read, "Men are that they might have joy!" I was never before taught such concept of life and I knew -deep in my heart- that it was true and it was what I was looking for. If you wish to read more about my life story, Deseret Book had published my autobiography under a title "Saint Behind Enemy Lines" which tells about my life back in Czechoslovakia and how I became Mormon.

How I live my faith

One absolutely amazing aspect to me as a member of the Church is that it has taught me an empowering life concept “to help others so that they can help themselves”. Savior's teaching helps me to see myself and others with more gentle eyes and it also helps to cultivate a heart which is genially compassionate toward others. I know for surety that over the past 23 years of my membership in the Church, I have grown tremendously in areas of serving others, developing leadership skills, as well as gaining a deeper sense of loving and understanding others without judging them. I love serving others inside and outside the Church, and it's a precious virtue that I have learned as a member of the Church. And that's perhaps when people ask me, "How are you?", I can honestly answer , "I am fantastic." - and I am. It doesn't mean that my life is always easy but the knowledge of God I have gained through living the gospel and Christ's love I have felt, empowers me, lifts me up and gives me desire to be a better person today than I was yesterday.
