Hi I'm Alyssa

I'm a college student. A return missionary. I love to relax, stargaze and listen to music. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I have lived most of my life in Idaho, and have loved it. I love the mountains! I love laying under the stars and pondering about how amazing God is and how much he must love us to have created such a beautiful universe. I'd much rather go around barefoot than wear shoes, whether it's inside or outside. I have a twin sister and we have done almost everything together. I have also been blessed with an amazing older brother and sister-in-law, a younger brother, and a younger sister. I couldn't ask for a better family. I speak spanish, all thanks to the wonderful opportunity I was given to serve a mission. Cooking has become a stress-reliever for me and I could spend all day in the kitchen. My personal opinion is that cooking is WAY better than baking. The gospel is a very real, very big part of my every day life.

Why I am a Mormon

All of my life my parents have raised me in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It wasn't until I was 14 that I really started to "desire to know for myself." I have always believed that the gospel was true, but hadn't yet known. The only way I could find out for myself was to pray and ask my Father in Heaven. So one day, my freshman year in high school, I decided to ask. I prayed everday for about a week until my answer came. It was a very clear, very real feeling. As I sat in my room, not really thinking about my question, but listening to music from church, the Holy Ghost gave me the strong confirmation I had been hoping for. I knew from that moment on, without a doubt, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church, Joseph Smith was a true prophet, and the Book of Mormon is the key stone of our religion. This is my religion, but more so, this is who I am. I am a Mormon!

How I live my faith

My faith is my life. I feel that my religion is what helps me decide how I live each and every day of my life. I have been blessed with several callings in my life, and look forward to many more in the future. I have served in a variety of different ways starting from when I was 13 or 14. The most rewarding calling I have had thus far is serving as a missionary. Serving the Lord full time has been a blessing beyond compare. I have a testimony of the importance of visiting and hometeaching, and believe it is one of the best ways to get to know others around me.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Alyssa
Our Father in Heaven sent us to this earth, having given us a plan. That plan was set forth to help us learn and grow in our life here on earth so that we can return to live with Him again. Not only this, but He wants us to be able to return to live with our families as well, to have eternal life. Family is important in this plan because it becomes so much easier to learn and grow from one another. We have our family to help and guide us in the right direction. "The family is central to God's plan for His children" and I truly believe this is true. I know that I have been sent to this earth to be with my family so that we can learn to love, serve, and become more like our Savior Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Alyssa
I strongly believe that men and women are both equal in the sight of God. We each have different roles in the church, neither of which are more or less important. The role that women have in the church is to strengthen and uplift others in the home and in the community. There has been an organization formed, the Relief Society, which is designed for women to unite together in a great cause to help learn, grow and serve together. The theme of the Relief Society is "Charity never faileth" and it is something that I, as a woman in the mormon church, believe in very strongly. It is the responsiblity and opportunity for every Latter-Day Saint woman to develop charity and to strive to better help those around us. Our role in the home is very important as well. The husband and wife are to work together in unity and raise their family in righteousness. So, what are mormon women like? Well, to me, a mormon woman is someone with the desire to become more like their Savior Jesus Christ through loving and serving others and is always striving to better herself, her family, and others around her. What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Alyssa
As I have studied the scriptures personally I have been able to see the blessings it has had on my life. There have been countless times in my life when the answers to my questions have come through reading the words of Christ. Throughout my mission in Kentucky I have been able to rely more on the scriptures and what they have to teach me. While talking with my companion one day she shared a scripture with me that really impacted my view on the work of the Lord. It's in Alma 26:27 in the Book of Mormon and says " Now when our hearts were depressed and we were about to turn back, behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go amongst thy brethren, the lamanites, and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give unto you success." Not all areas are easy for missionaries to serve in, some are very difficult where it's hard to find those who are ready to listen. This scripture from the Book of Mormon spoke so powerfully to me as I thought of all the blessings I've seen in such a difficult area. The Book of Mormon has a way, through the power of the Spirit, to show us the things we need to do. The same with any scripture from God. It has touched my life and will touch the lives of others as well. Show more Show less
