Hi I'm Irene

I got introduced to the mormon church through my son;but the mormon church is where I found the peace that I was looking for.

About Me

I was introduced to the mormon faith by my son;who had been going for a little over 3years....When I lived in Prescott for a while growing up I went through a really rough patch in highschool and I met this sweet young man who took me to his church youth group and basically introduced me to Jesus;but,as time went on I ended up "falling away"...I became a mom for the first time when I was 19 and I raised my daughter for 2yrs and realized that I couldn't take care of her and gave her up for adoption..I began to notice certain changes in my son and we made a "deal" w/each other one day;I told him that if he became a "priesthood holder" in the church before I turned 40 that I would stop my "bad habits" and look into finding out more about the Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints religion...Well he kept to his part of the "deal";so I had to live up to mine...I started the lessons in a fellow members home and it took me 8 sets of missionaries before I really looked into getting baptized;but,I give the credit to 2 former missionaries and my son who started me off on the "right path" and taught me that heavenly father really does exsist...

Why I am a Mormon

I bear my testamony that I at first felt like a "scared puppydog looking for food and shelter";I also felt like I was "broken glass that had been stepped on" and that I had been "sunk into"...I started out by going to the Tempe Evergreen ward where I felt the "peace" that I had been looking for after trying other faiths and just didn't get the feeling like I "belonged" or that I had found my home until I found about the mormon missionaries....I would see them riding their bikes and they would stop and talk to me and I would never see them again;until I met 2 wonderfully sweet and kind missionaries that "stuck around" and helped me to see that there is a man who has his arms ever wide open to lead me home to be able to live with him at his right hand again one day....Those missionaries along with my son are the ones that made me feel like I "found the food and shelter that this lost puppydog had been looking for at long last....

How I live my faith

My calling in the church is working with the 3 year olds in the nursery;which is the best calling for me because whenever I see a young mother in the ward having trouble with her baby I would go over to her and offer her a break...In another words I offer to take care of the baby by taking it out into the foye and getting the child to sleep or letting run or crawl around in order to get some of that "extra energy" out....It makes me feel "useful" because it helps me to see that there are members in the church that are willing to trust me with their babies...I used to take care of my bishop's second consuler's youngest boy when he was a baby and be able to put him to sleep...I love working in the nursery too because it makes me feel like I am able to "make up" for the years that I missed out on with my oldest child...

What is being a Mormon like?

Being a mormon is like finding the peace that you at first didn't think could be found and finally having that feeling like you finally "belong" Show more Show less
