Hi I'm Shelby

I'm a mom to 4 children, but have been privledged to be a foster parent to 15 other kiddos... and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a young child my parents investigated the church. I had my fair share of "Mormon" missionaries into my home during the 8 years my parents sought for the truth and then decided to be baptized. As a teenager I fell into pitfall of bad decisions. I found myself at the age of 17, addicted to drugs, alcohol, and doing what I needed to do to survive as a teen runaway. I also found myself far away from God, and looking for happiness through instant gratification. I dropped out of high school and ended up pregnant. This is not wat my parents had taught me. Fortunately somewhere along the line a seed had been planted. There was deep down inside a light... a testimony. I had a wakeup call. I knew that if I ever had children, I wanted them raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So, I changed my life. I found forgiveness and happiness. It wasn't an easy path, but some 17 years later I have been married in the temple, and have 4 biological children. I am super savvy when it comes to budgeting, couponing, and being all-around thrifty, which allows for me to be able to stay at home with my kids. The first 8 years of my marriage we have endured great financial hardship, have had trials and hardships most couples won't probably endure their entire life, but we've made it through it. I am proud to say I been a foster mom for the last 3 years and glad I am able to serve my community in such a way. I love being a parent and am grateful for Jesus Christ's love in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I ask myself every Sunday when I enter the chapel what am I doing here? For me going to church is not always easy. It's hard when you have little ones, or new foster kids. It seems like it would be much easier to just stay home. So why do I go? I go to feel the love of my Savior for me. The only way I have found happiness is through living and breathing the gospel of Jesus Christ. This includes sometimes doing hard things. Like getting 7 kids (6 which are girls) ready for church and in the pew by 9 am. Or sacrificing my time to serve others. But by these actions, I am growing closer to Christ. I am so not perfect. In fact, I can be rude, opinionated, and too straightforward. Definitely not Christ-like attributes, but each Sunday, I get to partake of the sacrament and promise to try harder to be a better example of Christ. That is why I go to church. That is why I'm a Mormon. Being a Mormon makes me a better person. I am more charitable, I am more loving, I am more patient, I am more kind. Most importantly I am always trying and progressing. I'm a Mormon because this is Christ's church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving in my community as a foster parent. I live my faith by being honest in all things. I live my faith by looking for ways to help others around me, strangers or friends. I live my faith by being committed to my family, no matter how hard life can be, I choose not to take the easier path. I live my faith by volunteering in my childrens' schools. I live my faith by striving every day to be a person my Father in Heaven would want me to be.
