Hi I'm J.J.

I'm a mom. i love quoting Nacho Libre. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mother of 4. I am a college graduate and I love to read and sing. I am a fantasy fiction junkie. I am a cub scout den leader. I love to speak in movie quotes. I love learning about the world, other places and cultures. I learned Spanish in college and South America.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in a home by great parents who loved me. I think I had a fabulous upbringing. My mother was Mormon, and my dad was not, so I definitely had to choose whether or not I would become a member of the Church. In my teen years, I began to watch my friends make choices that I didn't like. I decided that my greatest safety was in following the counsel of the prophets and in keeping the commandments of the Lord. When I was 15, I had an interview with my bishop. He challenged me to read 5 verses of scripture every day. I really tried to do that, even into my college years, and I think that single decision led to my conversion. I learned about God and was able to feel close to Him. It wasn't a big bang, it was a process over years. It even led me to serve a full-time mission, where I had many faith building experiences. One particularly powerful experience I will never forget, when I know that I was given a direct answer regarding the prophet Joseph Smith.

How I live my faith

I have seen the church change lives. I have seen the members accomplish amazing things. But I guess the greatest changes are in me. I find great fulfillment serving in different capacities. I am a leader over 9 year old cub scouts right now, and they give me a run for my money, but when I stop and think of the kind of men I hope they will be, I want such great things for them. I have also served among the women, planning events and visiting them one on one. I have assisted in giving help to families in a myriad of needs. But my greatest gift and opportunity is my family. I love this church because it gives me tools and support for my greatest work...at home. And the Lord lets me know he is there. I seem to learn, over and over again, that God is mindful of me and loves me. A few years ago, I lost my brother in a tragic accident. Several women made quilts for my family out of his tshirt collection. I will always treasure their gift of love to me, and I thank Heavenly Father for His tenderness in sending that blessing my way.
