Hi I'm Carmen Lawson

I am an Oregonian. I blog and I sew. I met my husband at band camp.I am a mother of three young boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up a California girl, but followed my heart to Oregon where I eventually married my husband who I originally met at a band camp. Now several years later, I get to stay at home and raise three rowdy young boys. My husband is a high school band director and we spend a lot of time with the band at basketball games and football games. At night after the kids are in bed I start my job of sewing pillows for an interior designer, update my blog, and cuddle up with my husband to watch The Cosby Show.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 14 years old. The lessons that the missionaries were teaching my older sister interested me and so I joined in the discussions. Everything I learned from those missionaries was familiar to me, though I had never been to a church before or talked about Jesus Christ with my family before. I became a Mormon because I knew then, and I still know today, that Jesus Christ established this church and it is eternal and it is true.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday with my family. Keeping three young boys quite during church is no picnic (believe me)—but that’s where we’re supposed to be so that’s where we are. I volunteer as the president over the children’s organization at our church. On the other days of the week I serve as well; at the elementary school, at the gym, for the city, and I serve my family. Service brings me closer to Jesus Christ.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Carmen Lawson
On a local level I strive to support and uplift my entire community, not just those who are Mormon. I make it a personal priority to volunteer and serve on city committees, in the public schools helping children with math and reading, and I participate in city wide service like collecting food for the needy and cleaning up parks. Finding the balance between serving exclusively in the church and also serving the community at large takes planning and time, but I love strengthening my town where my family lives.
