Hi I'm Jake Shirley

I grew up in Dallas. I play guitar. I box. I run, bike, and swim. I am a student, teacher and coach. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a senior in college, majoring in English Education. I am married to a beautiful wife. I coach the Payson High School track and cross country teams. I am currently training for an Ironman triathlon. In my free time I enjoy boxing. I am in a band called 'Slow Panic'.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of this church because it has made me incredibly happy. At times I have faltered in my faith and perused other paths, but nothing has made me happier than following my Savior and Master through His church. I have found an incomparable strength in living His gospel, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically.

How I live my faith

I recently was released from a calling working with the youth in my ward, which as a future teacher, I truly enjoyed. I currently am responsible for the physical care of our meetinghouse. I have learned a great deal about my Savior in serving in a capacity that is normally looked at as more physical than spiritual. I enjoy spending time with the words of the Savior through scripture, both ancient and modern, through the Lords Prophet. I have found strength to continue serving, even in the toughest of times, through the Masters words.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Jake Shirley
We all need a Savior because we have all made mistakes, from the simple to the grave. Because of our mistakes a distance is created between us and God. Our Savior has bridged that gap for us on the condition that we repent and do our best to continue to follow after Him. As long as we do our best to live the Lords gospel, the He will forgive us and continue to bride the gap between us and our Father in Heaven. Show more Show less
