Hi I'm Jalaire Hickman

I’m a writer, pianist, nature photographer, wife and Mom. I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I’m a wife, a mother of two adopted children, a nature photographer, a pianist, and writer. I spend at least two hours a day writing science fiction, “Jane Austin” type books, and dabble a bit into children's literature. I hope someday to become a published author.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up in the Church, my true conversion happened in 1994, when my father died. I prayed hard and studied the scriptures with an intense desire to know the truth. I began to fear for my own salvation, and wondered if I would see my dad again. I began with the Bible, and read of the prophets of old speaking of Christ and salvation through Him. Also I noticed the mention of temples and priesthood, along with baptism and the Holy Ghost. I compared my Bible findings with the Book of Mormon teachings. I listened more intently at Church. I realized that God had an overall Plan for His children -- and that the Bible and the Book of Mormon worked together as two witnesses of Jesus Christ. Over the next few months, I felt the fear and anxiety of death leave, which was replaced with love and peace that comes only through our Savior. I came to understand that there is a God who knows me personally, and cares about my life -- both here, and in the eternities.

How I live my faith

I teach in the Young Women’s organization, which is for girls age 12-18. We have weekly activities where we play games, cook, dance, do crafts, or to do service for others. It is rewarding to see these young women grow up with a firm knowledge of their Savior -- and I often feel the Holy Spirit while teaching them from the scriptures on Sundays.
