Hi I'm Rhea Tanner

I was born in Southern Alberta Canada into a loving Mormon family and community. I love being a Mormon mother of seven children.

About Me

I am a mom of seven children; four girls and three boys, and I am also grandma to 21 beautiful grandchildren! My family has become my life and through them, I have learned many of life's lessons. I have enjoyed the out-of-doors a lot through the years. I love to garden and to do landscaping, and I simply love my hands to be working in the soil. As a family, we have enjoyed camping, hiking, boating and swimming through the years and we still do. Something else I enjoy doing is cleaning and organizing our home and it always makes me feel really good to do so. Another love of my life is music. I enjoy singing all kinds of wonderful songs, especially sacred ones, and I love to listen to good music most all the time. Life seems a little empty without it. All of our children learned to play the piano and some learned to play other instruments as well. That, along with singing, brought much joy into my life then, and continues to now. I love people and I love animals and I love this beautiful world we live on.

Why I am a Mormon

I feel it a great privilege to have ancestors who faithfully helped the church to grow during the first years of it's restoration. It is because of them, and also my parents who lovingly raised my siblings and me in the Gospel, that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints today. My family gave me the opportunity to learn of Jesus Christ and His Gospel, and I chose to find out for myself if it was true. As a little girl, I was taught to pray and I gradually learned to pray with real intent and learned to recognize answers to my prayers. At age 16 I chose to read the Book of Mormon completely for the first time and I prayed to know that it was true. My answer came as a sweet, peaceful feeling within me that it was of God. I have read and studied that wonderful book many times since then. I have grown to feel that The Book of Mormon is one of my best friends that I can count on to help me handle life's challenges as they come. I want to say that I know God lives and that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. He paid the price necessary in the Garden of Gethsemane to atone for the sins and sufferings of each one of us. He also allowed Himself to die on the cross so we can all be resurrected someday. It is because of His atonement and His resurrection on our behalf, that we can repent and earn eternal life, if we will endure faithfully in this life. I know with all my heart that this is Christ's church here upon the earth. It is a Gospel of love and through it's teachings, we can find hope and peace and purpose as we experience joy and happiness and also sorrow and pain through life's journey. That is all part of the Great Plan of Happiness.I am so thankful for this testimony and I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love each one of us and want only for our happiness now and in the eternities. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

One thing I love about the Church is the opportunity we have to serve each other. Through the years I have worked with the children ages one and a half to twelve. I have been a leader in that organization as well as a teacher. Most enjoyably for me has been the opportunity to teach the Gospel to the children through inspirational music written especially for them. I have also enjoyed working with our young women, ages twelve through eighteen. I have gone to many summer camps with them. I have taught them the gospel through lessons as well as through songs that have been written for their age group. I have helped them to learn homemaking skills and to give service to others. I have also been able to work with the women in the church. In the organization for women, We try to help each other when in need. We watch out for each other and our families. We strengthen each other's testimonies of the Gospel through Sunday lessons and in each other's homes, as visiting teachers. As women in the church, we also seek out the poor and needy, so that the women and their families can receive the help they need through difficult times. Through all these experiences with serving the children, the youth and the women in the Church, I have learned that Heavenly Father loves His children, whether big or small. Through service in the Church, coupled with my efforts to teach the Gospel to my own family through the years, my faith and testimony in the truthfulness of the Gospel has been able to grow. I also strive to be a good example of a Christian to everyone. I want people to know that I love my Savior Jesus Christ, and that I want to serve and honor Him by trying to do what He would do if He were here beside me.
