Hi I'm Becky

I am a wife, mom and grandmother. I like to travel, volunteer and get pedicures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spend lots of time volunteering for our kids' school activities and also for military support activities. I enjoy being around people, helping, listening and laughing. We live a rural community and I enjoy being able to be involved in many community activities with my family as well. We also like to go camping, play and watch sports, and play games together.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon the year after I graduated high school. I had a few LDS friends who were great examples and I always saw and felt something different around their families. While I had wonderful parents who taught me many great things, I always felt there was something different that I was missing. From the first church meeting I went to I felt a void had been filled. I set goals differently as a member of the church and knew that things in a family could be different from they way I saw many struggling families. I wanted that hope and peace of a forever family most of all. It wasn't always easy at first to be a member of the church because I was, and still am, the only member in my immediate family. There were many things they didn't understand about my new faith. There were times I was easily tempted and swayed by former friends and behaviors. Over time my faith, understanding, strength to live the gospel, and testimony all grew. Am I perfect? Far from it, but I know that God loves me and has a plan for me. I know I have to do my part to figure out that plan and a big part of it is simply living the commandments and repenting when I make mistakes. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that He leads and guides me and His church through living prophets today and that the saving ordinances have been restored. I am grateful for this knowledge and strive to use it as a guide to my everyday living.

How I live my faith

At this time I serve in the Primary organization. In other churches this might be called "Children's Church". It's a real honor and blessing to see our young kids learn the gospel and share the things that they do to try and follow the Savior. I love to be with them each Sunday and sing and learn together with them. We were able to participate in a community religious singing night recently and their sweet songs and voices touched all who were there. Every summer I get to go camping with the young women in the church. That is so fun. The girls and leaders have great experiences being together, playing and serving each other, and learning skills and gospel principles away from the distractions of cell phones, social networking and tv. It's always an adventure! I also teach seminary which is an early morning (6:15 am) Bible study class for high school students. I only have two students, but we learn so much as we discuss the principles of the gospel and how they apply to our lives today. Right now we are studying the Old Testament and learning all about the blessings and covenants given to prophets and people of that time and can see how the gospel of Jesus Christ is here for us today as well. God loves us as he did the people of that time and His laws are unchanged.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Absolutely! When I first learned of the prophet Joseph Smith and the restoration of the gospel, it made so much sense to me. I had grown up learning about prophets from the Old Testament. It was easy to me to understand that God still loves us, that things are done in His timing and in these last days it is imperitive that disciples of Christ have appropriate direction to follow His plan for us. I prayed to know that this was true. That Joseph Smith had been called and restored the gospel and also that our current living prophet was truly called of God and I received that confirmation in my heart that this was true. I am grateful for the hope, direction and love that comes from Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through a living prophet. Show more Show less
