Hi I'm Jay

I have been an active member since of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints since I was 13 years old.

About Me

I grew up in the Church and served a mission, attended college and married, graduated from BYU and worked in the social services area for two years before going back to the University of Utah to get my Master’s Degree in Social Work. For the past 40 years I've worked as a clinical social worker doing individual and group psychotherapy and individual, marriage, and family counseling. Prior to her death in August of 2008 my wife and I raised 9 children who are all very successful in their chosen professions. My wife was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2006 and prior to that time we experienced some miracles that prepared us for that. Then during the time she was ill we were the recipients of many of the Lord’s tender mercies. Knowing she was terminal we drew great solace and comfort as she approached death’s door in knowing that we were married for time and eternity and that we would be husband and wife and continue to be a family beyond the veil of death. Since her death I have received great blessings and comfort and have been buoyed up by the Spirit of the Lord and have gained great comfort from understanding the plan that allows for families to be together in the eternities.

Why I am a Mormon

I have remained a Mormon because I have studied the teachings of Jesus, Peter, Paul, and the other apostles in the Bible and have studied the Doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. In doing so I believe The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints to be the same church with the same teachings and the same organization that Jesus had when he established His Church when He was on the earth. I have also studied The Old Testament and the prophecies contained in it. In doing so I can see where the restoration and the growth of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints fulfills many prophecies related to the latter days that can’t be explained by any other church or by any other teachings I’ve studied. In addition to those things, there have been times that I’ve felt the whisperings of the Spirit as it has testified of the truths taught by church leaders. With regard to church leaders, I also believe that the established pattern of the Lord has been to reveal His word through His prophets and that He is using that same pattern to teach and spread his gospel in these latter days. I find nothing scripturally or in any other way that would cause me to believe that He would vary from that pattern.

How I live my faith

I attend church for 3 hours every Sunday and serve in different callings or have served in different positions in the Church. In the Church we don’t get positions by volunteering and are not voted into them, but are called by our leaders to serve. Since there isn’t any paid ministry in the Church we serve without compensation, but serve out of our love for the Lord and for our fellow men. I have served in various callings over the years, including being a Bishop. (A Bishop serves over a ward or a congregation, similar to that of a local minister in other churches.) I have also worked with the youth of the Church in the scouting programs.
