Hi I'm Lisa

I’m from a small town in Georgia and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and soon to be mother, who has grown up playing sports my whole life. I loved playing anything competetive growing like softball, basketball, volleyball. I love working hard and being the best I can be for any team I play on. Throughout middle school and high school AAU and club sports were becoming very important for many other girls my age. I wanted to also become better and play- but all those teams played on Sunday. I always have tried to follow the commandment to ‘honor the Sabbath Day and keep it holy’ and found it was most important to go to church and be with family on Sundays instead of playing sports. I worked hard enough to make up for not playing on the club and AAU teams where I was still able to be one of the best female athletes of Gwinnett County. I even played volleyball and basketball outside of high school at a Division II college and finished with a degree in Sports Management: Recreation. My goal in life is to also give youth the opportunity to play sports and make sure those opportunities are not going to always conflict with Sunday worship.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up raised a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Many people would say that I just went with the flow and not open minded to other ideas. But in high school I had many times where I was so grateful to have a testimony where I had made up my mind that being a member of this church is who I wanted to be as my choice- and not my parents. I love the optimism of knowing what this life is for, and what is waiting for us on the other side after we pass. In college I did not go to Utah I stayed in Georgia and had many influences around me that would be easy to drop my standards and no one would know. But because I had made a choice- it was easy for me to turn down the many temptations of so many college students in today’s society. Along with the health benefits I was also receiving blessings by chosing the way my Heavenly Father would want me to live. By simply following the commandments from scriptures and a living prophet today I know I can return and live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again.

How I live my faith

I am a teacher for the youth of our church in a program called Primary. I love being with the children talking about the simplicity of how we can truely be more Christ-like. My favorite saying while teaching the children applies to all of us: When coming across a decison to do something good or bad.. always ask yourself "who will be happier- Jesus or Satan?” I also volunteer my time with the church as a member of a committee to plan activities for all the women. We make sure to involve all types of hobbies and interest to lift each other mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. We really love being closer as women to become better friends and become more like sisters together.
