Hi I'm Maureen

I grew up in southern Alberta, Canada in a small farming community. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a large family. My parents instilled in us a love of knowledge, reading, family, and a love of the scriptures and our Savior, Jesus Christ. Stories from the Bible and other scriptures were our bedtime stories. My Mom had the ability to make those stories come to life, and help us understand and relate to those in the stories. I have lived in many places as I have pursued an education and career. I'm a physical therapist and enjoy the opporotunity to help people recover from illness or injury and to be able to return to their homes and families again. I like making a difference everyday. I enjoy traveling and sightseeing throughout the USA and have become an amateur photographer. I also enjoy scrapbooking and crafts.

Why I am a Mormon

As a young child my parents taught us children from the Bible and other scriptures about our Savior, Jesus Christ and how He lived. We learned about the prophets and apostles and how we should live. In our small farming community there were at least 8 different churches. From classmates, friends and through school, I Iearned about some of their beliefs. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the only one that had answers that made sense to me and were in keeping with the Bible stories & teachings. I chose to be baptized at the age of 8. It was many years later that I came to understand the whisperings of the Spirit and how the Holy Ghost makes us feel as it testifies to our heart and spirit of truth. When I gained that testimony and understanding, I was able to look back at my life, and see that I had had those feelings and impressions throughout my life. The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the great plan of Happiness rings true to my soul. It is the only way to live and to find peace and happiness in this life. As I have walked the road of life, I have not had to walk it alone. I know my Heaven Father and my Savior love me, and I have felt their love, and been guided and directed by the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

I try to be a true follower of Jesus Christ by trying to live as He did, and by developing some of His divine attributes. How I live my life and conduct myself should show that I am a follower of Jesus Christ. Service is a big part of my life. It brings me joy to help and lift others. In my church, I work as a family history consultant. I help others to work on their genealogy- to research their ancestors. I have done a lot of work on my own family history, trying to not only find my ancestors, but find out where they lived and what they did, and to learn more about them. I have learned more about who I am, and have been strengthened by my ancestors lives and examples.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

Maureen
Jesus Christ taught by his example that baptism is a necessary ordinance for all of us. If baptism was necessary for him, and he sought out John the Baptist(who had the authority by birthright), how much more do we need to be baptized? Many people have lived and died on this earth without a knowledge of our Savior and his gospel. The scriptures tell us that God is merciful and also unchanging. The atonement, and resurection of Jesus Christ, and the apostle Paul in 1st Corinthians, tell us that there is more than this life; that life goes on after death. Therefore baptisms performed in temples by proxy allow those who haven't had the opporotunity to receive these ordinances while they lived on the earth to accept them if they chose to. Their agency isn't compromised. Our Heavenly Fathers plan of salvation allows everyone to have equal access to the Saviour's love, teachings, and atonement. Show more Show less
