Hi I'm Alisa

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 46 year old mom and recently a grandmother. My children are both taller than me since I am 4'11. I am from Dallas, TX. but reside here with my husband. I attend a community college in which I am in the nursing program for LPN. I waited to raise my two daughters and then decided to go back to school. I am a Seminary teacher in early morning and then rush to make it in time for class at 7:45am. It is a busy schedule but I am enjoying it. I enjoy working out in the garden and in the yard. I love planting flowers and all the beautiful things that I see at the nursery or store. I enjoy playing softball even though I haven't played it in a few years. I enjoy making crafts with all sorts or different materials. I can make some things that don't require alot of money. I keep them and display them for whatever season or occassion they were made. I would like to learn making pottery items. I love to travel. I can appreciate the beautiful scenery and different cultures that I come accross on the road. Family, I make it a point to spend time with them as much as possible. That means either flying or driving. By the way, driving isn't so bad especially since we get to stop in Nashville, TN in which we stop to enjoy some mighty tasty ribs. We love to play musical instruments and sing together usually at home or with family. Family time is very important to me so the holidays are very special. Birthdays too! I just enjoy people. I learned to after moving out on my own.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Catholic faith. I went to Catholic school and wore the uniformed plad skirt. I loved it as a child. Growing up I discovered I had questions that weren't being answered. I was only told because that is what we have been told. I needed more information and answers to my questions. I started searching and investigating other religions. Because of my friend, I was even a saved member of the Baptist community during high school as well as attending the Catholic church. (My family has generations of Catholic members). More so for tradition. While married to my first husband as a depedent of the Air Force in Central Louisiana I attended all the churches I could find. Nothing helped me to heal or completely answered my questions. It was always bits and pieces but never whole. I was sweeping sand off the sidewalk when two young men in suits came and introduced themselves and started explaining the plan of salvation to me. After almost a year of investigation I finally read the Book of Mormon all the way through. It only took me three nights to do. After I finished the last page I had remembered reading Moroni's admonition to pray and ask it this books words were true. I knelt down in prayer with my girls who were 5 and 2. When they finally fell asleep I asked Heavenly Father on my knees and gave my trust to him in answering me. I asked in the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit. I wasn't an emotional person at that time because of my upbringing but I can tell you that it seemed that my heart was growing and I felt such a sweet buring in my chest that I was suddenly happy and wanted to cry. It was the first time I had felt such warmth and love from a God who was letting me know that he was real and he lives. I felt that I wasn't alone anymore. I spoke with the missionaries and got baptized just before Desert Storm happened. I knew it was true.

How I live my faith

I am a work in progress all the time. By that statement I mean that I do my best to follow the gospel and the commandments but sometimes I mess up. Not too extreme but I do get angry now and then and yell at my daughters or husband. I immediately repent and ask in prayer for forgiveness. I am a person who can now see by learning everyday and praying when I wake, eat, and go to bed that we are all souls having a human experience. We will be tried and face challenges throughout our lives yet he will be with us to help us get through them if we just trust him and turn it over to him. Pray for strength and guidance to make the right choice. I try to follow the word of wisdom and eat right. I have been known to eat take out due to my school schedule though. Again repentance and learning from my mistakes. Sometimes I just observe others or read what the prophet counsels and the other leadersof the church and just don't do what they advise us not to do. I have seen with my own eyes the difference in being raised in a voilent family with drugs and alcohol and smoking so much that it kills them like my mom and grandmother. I want to be around for my grand daughter who is so precious to me as well as my girls. I choose to obey of my own free will. No one is forcing me nor brainwashing me. It is a sweet responsibility and is delicious to me. I love this gospel and I love my Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit as well as family and friends. I love you too. Why? Because you are a family in Jesus Christ. I hope you come to learn for yourself and learn how to have joy in your lives despite the trials and afflictions that come along the way. Remember you are never alone. He is always with you just waiting to embrace you with open arms. I testify to you that if you find out for yourself you will receive your answers only if you are sincere and humble. Open your heart and he will fill it with his love. I am ready to help you in any way I can.

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Alisa
I love the having the knowledge that there is more to life than what this world is and that the soul never dies. It continues to live on due to the ressurection and Atonement of Jesus Christ who saved us from eternal death and captivity under Satan. He died so that we may live. That is their gift to us his children. Show more Show less

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Alisa
You will learn what happened to the people who lived in the Americas back then. You will read what choices they made and the consequences of that choice. You will see how merciful Heavenly Father was to his people who followed him and obeyed his commandments and lived righteously. It is an eye opener. It will guide you so that you may apply it today in your life. You will find peace and joy in your heart and soul. Keep reading and the further along you get the more interesting it will become. These Holy Scriptures are for us to learn from and to realize how precious we are to a loving Father in Heaven and his beloved son Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit will guide you if you ask in sincere prayer. Show more Show less
