Hi I'm Rolan O.Heaps

I'm a Mormon. I have been a member of the church all my life. I grew up in Utah and Idaho. I currently live in Renton, Wash.

About Me

I live with my wife and one of my daughters. She has two of our grandchildren. We have a total of 9 grandchildren to go along with 4 children. I am nearing the end of my career for the U.S. government with the Postal Service. In this capacity, I have been a letter carrier, clerk, safety specialist, and currently in the Labor Relations dept. for our Wash. District. I am nearing the end of my career with my wife Mary, who also works for the Post Office. In two years she will have her 30 years in. We are looking forward to retiring from that aspect of our lives.

Why I am a Mormon

Like many others whose family history is full with devoted members of the church, I am also. And, as with all individuals, there comes a time when you must trust in the Lord, and seek out the truth for yourself. To ride on the coatails of my mother and father was not enough. For me, it came into focus while I was serving in the Air Force in Southeast Asia during the Viet Nam war. I was attending church at a branch on Guam(I was on a airlift command post for the USAF) I was very active with the singles group which comprised mostly of military personnel like myself from the USAF, Navy, and Marines. I also was called to be a stake missionary. Our stake headquarters was located in Hawaii. On Easter morning, our young group decided to have a testimonal meeting of our own overlooking the vast Pacific when the sunrise could be seen for many miles around. I had prepared for this by fasting and praying for an answer to the divinty of the church. I received confirmation during my testimony in the form of the warmest, safest, calming, and glorious feeling I had ever experienced as a member of the Lord's church. That feeling has never left me. It has grown for over 40 years since then. Today, I am filled with the all calming love the savior has for all of us, and the knowledge that the church is the surest way into the eternities. I know the Prophet Joseph Smith restored the Lord's church and received all the keys necessary to carry on His work on the earth. I know we have a living prophet today who leads and directs the affairs of the church for the Lord on the earth. I know also that my parents, their parents and many others before me set the tone of truth with sacrifice and obedience to the Lord. I know also that the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is at the head of the church and shortly will be returning to rule personally over his church on earth. I say this in the name of our beloved savior, Jesus Christ, amen.

How I live my faith

I have been very fortunate to serve in many capacities of teaching in the local wards that I have been a member of. I am currently the High Priest Instructor for our group, and have been for almost 16 years. Other assignments have been teaching Elders Quorum, High Priest Group leader, Sunday School President, Emergency Preparedness Specialist, ( which I have done volunteering in my local community) and coaching baseball for 20 years to the local youth, as well as coaching church sports in softball, basketball, and volleyball.
