Hi I'm Hilarie

I have a great passion for learning. I love to play piano. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a happy student and wife. I was married just this September on the 22nd. I love to learn and desire to share that love of learning with others. I was home-schooled up through high school and am currently in my second semester of college. I have a great passion for learning and for the principles of freedom. I also teach beginning piano lessons and enjoy sharing my love of music with my students. I love personal journaling and nature photography. I love my family. And of course—I love my husband and I am so grateful for him! Most of all I love beauty and truth, and striving to find these through living the gospel brings me so much joy. I love to soak in beauty of all kinds: beauty of nature, beauty of the children of God, and beauty of principles and simple truth.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, is the fullness of Christ's Gospel on the earth today. I was raised in the church ever since I was born, but I am not just a member because my parents believe, or because that was what was taught in my family. When I was thirteen years old I went through a time of defining myself and my personal beliefs; during that time I questioned if the church was true. I decided that if it was true, I needed to know for myself. So, just as the scripture (John 7:17) teaches I followed the teachings to see if they were true. I prayed and studied the scriptures (both Bible and Book of Mormon) and strove to be kind to others. I noticed blessings in the scriptures and the conditions they were attached to, and tried them for myself. These things brought me such joy and peace as I was able to feel the spirit. Through the confirmation of the spirit I gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel and it's principles, and a testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

Although it is not easy to follow every commandment, I strive my best to do the things I know are true. Sometimes when life gets busy with school and other activities, it is hard to stay focused on the Savior and his plan. But I have learned that when I focus on him and following his plan, and most of all—putting his will before mine, I have great joy! I know that Heavenly Father wants the best for me, and when I put him first I am able to receive the blessings he has for me. One of the ways I strive to be sure I am putting him first on a daily basis, is scripture study. When I make time for this, and make sure my heart is in the right place, everything else in life just seems to go better. And even when struggles come, I am able to deal with them with the right perspective. Daily scripture study and prayer also help me to remember to look outside myself instead of just focusing on my own problems and the “to do's” on my list. I am more able to see when others need a smile, or someone to listen. Being there for others and trying to see good in them and do good for them also makes me happy. I know that the Savior would be serving and giving and loving others every minute of the day if he were here on earth. I try to follow his example and this brings me great joy.
