Hi I'm Shari

I'm a Mormon and I believe in Jesus Christ.

About Me

I am a full time working mom. I am married, and I have one child. I love being the mother of my son. He is 10 years old. My weekends consist of running errands and having quality time with my son Alex. We enjoy going to the skate park or spending time with friends and family. I learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints when I was 17 years old, and I was baptized at 20 years old. I learned about the church through my husband's family before we got married. We have been married for 19 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints because I felt the spirit when I attended meetings there and it felt right. It is different from the other churches I've attended. The members taught me by example. They lived Christlike lives every day and not just on Sundays. They loved and served the Lord every day. Families are important to them. They would say their prayers and read their scriptures. I could see by their example that they were happy and felt true joy because they lived the gospel on a daily basis. I wanted that kind of joy in my life. I'm amazed how much love they have for one another. They truly seek to serve one another. I live far away from my family, and it's hard not living close to them. Having God in my life helps me not to feel so alone. I have a great support system at church, and I love my current ward family. I know that they love me and my family. I am grateful to be a Mormon. It has helped me to surround myself with other Christians who love and serve God. It has brought me great happiness and has helped me to be a better person.

How I live my faith

My son helps me stay on the right path because I want to be the best example for him. I know that he can be the best that he can be by having Jesus Christ in his life. I love sharing the gospel with him, and I know if I live a righteous life, he has a better chance of living a righteous life as well. I am not perfect, but I do strive to be a better person every day. I am thankful for the atonement plan and that I can apply it to my life daily. I try to say my prayers every day. I love attending all of my church meetings. I have a testimony of the benefits of visiting teaching. I have a testimony of the blessings of being a full tithe payer. I think it's important to seek wholesome things, I do not watch "R" movies, or read inappropriate books. I listen to uplifting music. I think it's important to continually evaluate and keep my standards high and to be the best example that I can be. 1 Timothy 4:12 ......... but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. One of my favorite scriptures is Hebrews 13:8. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. I believe that revelation holds true. I believe that God still speaks to his prophets, as he did in the days of old. I believe that President Thomas S. Monson is the true latter day prophet.

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Shari
God gave a law of health to Joseph Smith in 1833 which is called The Word of Wisdom. The Word of Wisdom can be found in Doctrine and Covenants 89: 1-21. I know that if I heed the Word of Wisdom that my mind and body will be blessed for eating and drinking wholesome things. We have been asked to refrain from Tobacco, Alcohol, Coffee/Tea and Illegal drugs. One of the blessings of keeping the Word of Wisdom is "I shall run and not be weary and I shall walk and not faint." I find great comfort in this blessing. I know if I heed the Word of Wisdom it will help me stay closer to God. I often think of Daniel in the Old Testament when he didn't eat and drink the King's meat and wine. I think it was a very courageous thing for Daniel to do (Book of Daniel, Chapter 1 1-21). He chose a healthier diet even when it was uncommon to do so. Daniel and his friends were blessed for not defiling their bodies. They were given wisdom and skill in all learning. Daniel was also given understanding in all visions and dreams. I have a strong testimony of not drinking caffeine. Drinking caffeine is common in today's society. I worry about young people that are exposed to these new energy drinks with high amounts of caffeine. I feel these drinks will lead to more addictive substances and illnesses. Even as an adult, I can feel the peer pressures of the world. I feel that any type of addiction, no matter how small it may seem, is Satan's way of trying to catch us in his snares.
