Hi I'm Erin

I sing, act and teach voice lessons. I also like to box, run and spend time with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love music and it pervades most aspects of my life. I sing opera and musical theatre, direct and music direct musicals, compose and teach private voice lessons. I especially love teaching people to sing and helping others fulfill their dreams. Wearing lots of different hats is challenging but I love the constant variety of new projects. I like to be active and enjoy freestyle boxing (just hitting bags...I could never hit a person), yoga and jogging. I love working in the garden and being outside. The beautiful trees and water of the Pacific Northwest make the rain worthwhile and there is nothing like a sunny day with Mount Rainier out in all her glory. My two teenage children are my pride and joy. We love to see new places together, do projects at home or attend their ballet programs or baseball games. My husband became disabled 10 years ago and his health creates unique challenges for our family but he is remarkably involved in the lives of our children. My family is my greatest treasure.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church but I had to gain my own testimony and I prayed to know if it was true. In small and simple ways over time, I felt that truth seep down deep into my heart. Through the years, I have had some really tough challenges. Knowing that God will hear my prayers has made a huge difference in how our family handled those challenges. Those trials have also taught me that God loves me. Understanding that God loves me and all his children changes everything and makes the tough times so much easier to face.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving in my church by teaching early-morning seminary. Seminary is so much fun! I teach freshman and sophomore high school students at 6:05am and they remarkably are usually awake and excited to learn. This last year we studied the New Testament and I loved having the opportunity to study the scriptures first thing in the morning. These youth are so smart and dedicated. It is amazing to witness them grow as they feel the Spirit and see how living righteously can really bless their lives. I also play the organ for our Sacrament Meeting services and visit a few sisters each month as a visiting teacher. Visiting Teaching is wonderful because it is a relaxed visit in the homes of women who usually become friends. The things that we learn at church are clearly seen in their examples as they have applied those principles in their life. I always feel like I have a better perspective and hopefully they feel uplifted from our visits as well. Even visits with sisters who haven't been to church in a long time usually offer a boost as we share a brief message. Our family tries to live the gospel at home. We aren't perfect but we usually pray every evening together and have Family Home Evening on Monday nights where one member of the family teaches a short lesson. Reading the scriptures is important to me and I always feel like my challenges are manageable when I read from the Book of Mormon.
