Hi I'm Brett

I'm a Hoosier, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm from a small town in Indiana, I'm 21 years old, and am serving as a missionary in the beautiful state of Idaho. I love spending time with my family and friends. I love music. It has incredible power to influence the way we feel, think and act. I love to spend time in nature! I am always amazed at the beauty and majesty of God's creations. I believe that life is to be enjoyed, not simply endured, so, when hard times come, I choose to smile and laugh. I have a deep and abiding love for my Father in Heaven, and His Son, my Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. I am far from the perfect example of a Christian, but I try as hard as I can to make myself better today than I was yesterday. I love and depend on Jesus Christ and His Atonement. The Atonement of Christ is what gives us hope in better tomorrow, in a better us.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a good LDS home and since I was young, I was taught from the Bible and the Book of Mormon and for most of my youth, I accepted what my parents taught me as the truth. As I grew and began forming my own opinions, I realized that I really didn't know for myself if the Book of Mormon was true. I then did as everyone who has a knowledge of the truth of the Book of Mormon must do- I read the Book of Mormon and prayed with real intent to know if The Book of Mormon was true. After several days of reading, pondering, and praying, my prayers were answered. The Holy Ghost testified to me that the words of The Book of Mormon were the words of the Lord. From that moment on I have had a strong testimony of The Book of Mormon. I have a firm testimony of the cleansing and healing power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I have felt it in my own life as I have come before the Savior with a broken heart and a willingness to change and be forgiven. I believe that there is nothing on Earth that can bring more joy than the power of the Atonement and it is my wish that everyone can feel the joy that come from the Atonement and the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love sharing my testimony of our Savior, Jesus Christ, and his restored gospel!

How I live my faith

Although I am far from perfect, I try to pattern my life after the example and teachings of the Savior, Jesus Christ. For the last four years I have participated in an early morning scripture study class that meets for fifty minutes each school day before school. I am preparing to serve a two year mission when I turn 19 in the summer of 2012. My dad and I visit members of the church locally and check on their welfare, and give them instruction as their home teachers.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a book of scripture that testifies of Jesus Christ. It was written by ancient prophets. One of these prophets, named Lehi, was commanded by the Lord to lead his family out of the city of Jerusalem and move to the American continent. The descendants of Lehi became a large civilization. The Lord continued to call prophets among these people. The Book of Mormon is the compiled writings of these prophets. As all prophets before and after them, they testified of Jesus Christ and taught His gospel to the people. The Book of Mormon supports and is a companion to the Bible. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, God the Eternal Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ are the center of our faith and our worship. We revere and reverence the Prophet, Joseph Smith and his mission. This should not be mistaken for worship. We revere and honor Joseph Smith just as we do Peter, Paul, and all of the Prophets called of God. Even though we honor these men and reverence their sacred callings, All of our faith and devotions are centered exclusively in God, the Eternal Father, and His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. It is in Their sacred names that we offer all of our prayers. We know that the only way that any one of us can be cleansed from our sins is through repentance and obedience to the laws of God, this being made possible by the miraculous Atonement of Jesus Christ. These conditions apply to all, including Joseph and all the Prophets. Given that all are in equal need of repentance and the grace of God, none but our Father in Heaven, and His Son, Christ are worthy recipients of our worship and devotion. Show more Show less
