Hi I'm Shelly

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a wife and mother. My husband, Dwight, and I have been married for 36 years and we have 7 children and 14 grandchildren. I love art. I am an art teacher at a combination junior high/high school. I enjoy both teaching and creating art. I also enjoy sewing, decorating, cooking and crafts. I love being with my family more than anything. It gives me a great deal of comfort knowing that our family can be together forever as the gospel teaches.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) when I was seventeen and a senior in high school. I was being influenced to go in several different directions at that time. I am so grateful I chose the Church. My life could have been very different had I not. I was impressed with some of the kids I knew who were members of the Church, they were a positive influence on me. The missionary discussions made sense to me, and I felt the spirit when I went to church, although I didn't realize at the time what that feeling was. Most of my family joined as well, including my parents. It has blessed our lives immeasurably, I cannot even imagine what my life would be like if I had not joined the church, I love it with my whole heart.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in all that I do. I try to dedicate my day to my Savior each day, I try to do my best to be a positive influence on others and try to uplift those around me as much as possible, so that almost everything I do is either directly or indirectly serving Him. I try to be kind to those I come in contact with and view all others as my brothers and sisters. As a teacher I try to be positive and kind, and always build and lift my students. I know that most of them will not do art for the rest of their lives, but I can help them feel successful and good about themselves. They may not remember what I've said, but they will remember how I made them feel. I try to live my faith in my family life by treating my family members with kindness and respect. My children have never heard my husband and I argue or fight with each other. We disagree sometimes, but know that contention creates a negative atmosphere in the home. I try to show unconditional love to my family members, because that is how God loves us. I also serve the Church in any capacity I am called to. I have served in the Primary organization for small children. I've served in the Sunday School, in the Young Women's organization for teen-aged girls, and in the organization for Women. I am currently in charge of the ward bulletin and scheduling special musical numbers for our Sacrament meetings. I especially enjoy teaching in the church, I learn so much when I teach.
