Hi I'm Karen

I'm a mother, teacher, and cancer survivor . . . twice. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a cancer survivor times two, single mother of three awesome children who are grown and making good lives of their own, grandmother, and a reading teacher for 25 years. I have survived the death of an infant son, a life-changing divorce, and cancer twice because of the Lord’s strength and grace through His sacrifice. This, along with earthly angels consisting of family and friends, has sustained me through these hard times. I have been guided to new paths through these struggles that have brought peace and happiness to my life. I know I am loved and that my Heavenly Father is aware of my every need and desires; He wants me to be happy. Therefore I am always in pursuit of good food, music, books, and I love to visit new places.

Why I am a Mormon

At first I was a Mormon because I was born into a Mormon family with pioneer ancestry, but now I’m a Mormon because I want to be. I know there are different religions out there; I have wonderful friends and colleagues who are not Mormon, and they, too, believe in God and family. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) has been organized with a living prophet at its head whose authority goes back to Jesus Christ, to give us modern day revelation. I read and treasure the Book of Mormon as another testament of Christ, as translated by the Prophet, Joseph Smith. Am I perfect because I’m a Mormon? No, not even close, but I am striving within the framework of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to learn to be like my Father in Heaven so I can return to His presence one day.

How I live my faith

I try to find joy and wonder in each day that has been gifted to me. I pray with praise and thanks that I have been granted this second life to serve the Lord and others however I can. I pray each day to be aware of those opportunities to share His love to my family, friends, and those I don’t know yet. I am working to be the best daughter, mother, grandmother, and friend that I can be each day.
