Hi I'm Skyler Farmer

I'm a missionary going to Samara Russia, I love to longboard, I love the outdoors and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Hello, my name is Skyler Farmer. I went to one semester at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Utah before leaving for a 2 year mission to Samara Russia. When I return I would like to become a motivational speaker. In high school I played a tight end/wide receiver mix in football and I played as either the 8 man or flanker on my rugby team. In 2012 my rugby team competed in and won the division 2 Rugby State Championship. I hope to walk on to the BYU rugby team when I return from my 2 year mission. When I was 15 I completed my Eagle Scout project and became on Eagle Scout. I finished my Duty to God award when I was 17. I enjoy recreational shooting(trap shooting is my favorite), dirt biking, fishing (basically anything outside) any sport, hanging out with my friends and family, and about a year ago I became very interested in Long Boarding and that has been my new favorite thing to do. Also a few months ago I got into Mountain Boarding which is long boarding but off road, so I immediately became hooked. I own my own Nuisance Animal Control business where I trap and remove nuisance animals. I love telling stories about my wonderful exciting life as well as about my family.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents are converts so they weren't just born into the church like I had the privilege of. They had to find out that this church is true for themselves because they didn't have a parent in the church to help them figure it out. When I was younger my testimony was based off of my parents and was pretty basic. But as I got older I was able to get a testimony of my own. I read the Book of Mormon and I prayed to know if its true. The feeling that I was overwhelmed with was that it was true and that it had been translated by Joseph Smith. This man had an elementary education but he was able to translate this ancient language, that is a work of God. I choose to be a member of this Church because I know for myself that it is true. I know that this is the true church of Jesus Christ with restored truths that God wants all his children to hear about. There is a plan set up for us, if we come to earth and do what we are taught in the Bible and the Book or Mormon and keep his commandments then we can live with God, Jesus Christ, and our families forever. I love my family and I am striving to be able to live with them for eternity. I can not wait to go to Russia for my mission and to share this gospel with the Russian people. It will be challenging but the Lord will bless me that I will be able to teach the gospel in the Russian language and that the people that I teach will be able to feel the spirit.

How I live my faith

When I was at BYU this pass semester I was called as the Male Activities Committee Co-Chair. My job was to plan the ward activities that we had every month to help bring the ward together and get to know people. Now that I am back home I have been called as the Assistant Den Leader for Cub Scouts. I work with kids and help them move up the ranks hopefully one day to become eagle scouts. I have been a home teacher with my dad for the past 2 years since my brother is serving his mission in the Belgium Netherlands mission. As a home teacher, my dad and I visit the families that we are assigned to and give them a spiritual lesson and ask about there lives so that the families are comfortable with us and will ask us for help if any help is needed. I received my mission call and I will be going to Samara Russia in April for 2 years to teach the Russian people about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I attend church every sunday that I can, scripture study and prayer is an every day occurrence and helps me remember my promises I made with God and helps me stay faithful.
