Hi I'm Maria LaRae Johnson

I am 17 years old. I am athletic, I enjoy writing and reading, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I was born in Detroit, Michigan where my mom and dad adopted me and also my brother a year later. My parents divorced when I was 6 years old. Long story short years later I knew my father would never change so now we don't share that father-daughter relationship anymore.I am very excited to graduate and attend BYU Idaho! One of my passions is running. I absolutely love to run. I run track and have been running for about 5 years now. I sprint the 100meter, 200meter, 4X100, and the 4X200. I have participated in a lot of sports such as basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics. I have always been very athletic. I also have a passion for writing. I hope to one day be an editor of a magazine or be a columnist in a magazine. My mom helped me start writing in a journal when I was young probably around 9 or 10 and ever since then I have been writing about pretty much anything.

Why I am a Mormon

I absolutely love this gospel. I KNOW it to be true. When I read the Book of Mormon for the first time from cover to cover, it change my life. I feel so much closer to my Heavenly Father than I have ever felt. When I went to the bishop in my ward I knelt in prayer with him. In that prayer he said that the Lord will no longer remember the sins I have done. After the prayer I felt all the things I did wrong leave me. I felt like a new person. I will never forget that feeling. I love my Heavenly Father so much. He has done so much for me and my family. I know my Heavenly Father lives and that the repentance process is so worth going through. It has helped my testimony grow stronger. I'm also really grateful to attend seminary. It gives me a better understanding of the scriptures.

How I live my faith

I am a Laurel President. I have the opportunity to share my ideas about activities and getting to know the young women in my ward. I have never felt closer to the young women until I had this calling. It's a wonderful calling. I was actually very shocked that I was chosen for that calling. I know that not everybody is perfect but I didn't feel that it was the calling for me. I knew after praying to my Heavenly Father this WAS the calling for me. I knew that he wanted this for me. I need to reach out the girls in my ward and be that example for them. I'm grateful to have this calling. I go to seminary every morning starting at 6:00am. I have attended seminary for 4 years now. I enjoy it very much. To be able to have a spiritual lesson before I go to school is a really good start to my day. Seminary helps me understand the scriptures and understand how important they are and also how they relate to all of us even though they were written a long time ago. I go to church on Sunday starting at 9:00am. I listen to all the talks and testimony's.
