Hi I'm Parker

I am a Colorado native who loves the cold, the mountains, and also music. I try to be the best I can be. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the fourth out of five siblings. I have three brothers and one sister. I was born in Colorado and have been there almost all my life (I love Colorado so much!). I served a two year mission in California. Now I am attending BYU in Utah and pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. I have always been great with math and science, and I greatly enjoy building/making/creating things. I think things like Legos are fantastic, because you can create so many things with them. I hope to use the mechanical engineering skills I develop and learn to help those with physical disabilities. I love being in the mountains and being somewhere it gets cold in the winter. I really enjoy the snow and love skiing! And during the summer, when it's warmer and there is no snow, I like to run and ride my bike. And when the opportunity presents itself, I go camping. However my favorite hobby is singing. I have always loved singing, whether it's show tunes, choral music, rock, or 80's pop! I can't resist singing, it is so much a part of me, I don't think I could survive if I lost the ability to do so. I just love music in general. I don't know how to play an instrument, but I wish I did.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in a Mormon family and have been a faithful, active member all my life. But I am not a Mormon because I was "brainwashed" or told to, but because I have been blessed greatly by living the standards of the church and by following the council given by the prophets and apostles. Time and time again, this truth gets confirmed to me as I pray and study the scriptures daily, through the experiences I have, and the tender mercies I see from God. I have always believed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be true. I have always been faithful to the commandments, even when doing so wasn't favorable. There came a time in my life where I felt alone, I felt as though no one in the world cared about me. I wondered why I felt like this when all I was trying to do was help those around me and show kindness to everyone. I was lost in the world and alone in darkness, but I endured my sorrow because of my faith. I knew what was right and what was wrong. And I knew I needed to be obedient to God's commandments no matter what and do what was right, not what was easy or popular. God blessed me for my faith and obedience and I have gained wonderful friends whom I love spending time with. I have gained a light and joy in my life with which I am able to overcome sorrow. Even now, my life continues to be blessed by living the Gospel everyday. I continue to see miracles in my life, changes in myself and in my heart I can hardly believe possible. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and He is always watching over me wanting to help me with whatever I need. Through His grace I am able to overcome my weaknesses. The joy I get from keeping the commandments is something no man can take away from me and it overrides any happiness the things in this world can give me. I have peace despite the chaos we are surrounded with in the world. I have found self-fulfillment in my faithfulness and know I will one day be blessed to live with God again in Heaven.

How I live my faith

My faith is part of how I live. It governs how I act. My faith pushes me to be the best that I can be because I believe that the ultimate purpose of this life is to become like Jesus Christ. Not only do I look towards Jesus Christ as my example, I also turn to Him for help. I pray for His help to do well in school, to do well at work, to be able to help and serve others, and for strength to do what I can't do on my own. Because of all of this I have pushed and stretched myself to become better. It has even influenced what I want to do with my life. I want to get a mechanical engineering degree, and I want to use it to help people and help the world. I also take better care of my body because of my faith. I believe our bodies are special and beautiful gifts from God so I try to take care of it by doing things like eating well and exercising. I also participate in my local Young Single Adult congregation as a choir director. I love this opportunity because I love music! I love being able to stand in front of the choir after we have learned a song and get to perform it.

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon, like the Bible, testifies of Jesus Christ. It does not replace the Bible, nor is it greater than the Bible. It supports the teachings of the Bible and adds to the truths contained in it. The stories in the Book of Mormon "talk of Christ, rejoice in Christ, preach of Christ, [and] prophesy of Christ...that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins" (2 Nephi 2:26). At the end of the Book of Mormon is a promise that those who read it and sincerely pray about it, can know for themselves if it is true. We encourage all people to read the Book of Mormon and ask of God whether or not it is true. This is the only way you can truly know for yourself. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Most people look at death as an end, but it is not. We believe after our bodies die, our spirits continue to live. At death our spirits separate from our bodies and go to a place called the spirit world where we will see those who we have loved while in our lives on earth. Our spirits continue to grow and learn and, one day, everyone who lived on earth will be resurrected. This means our spirits will be reunited with our bodies and they will never again be separated. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

When missionaries visit your home they will share a message about Jesus Christ. The purpose of the lessons they teach are to help others increase their faith in Jesus Christ. Among other things they teach are our Heavenly Father's plan for us, what the Atonement is and how to use it, and the way we can receive blessings from God. Show more Show less
