Hi I'm Russel Choules

I love Liberty and the Constitution, I attend BYU-Idaho, I will be serving in the Arizona Tempe Mission, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've lived in the state of Indiana for most of my life. I was home schooled throughout my childhood, and loved it. My mother helped me to have a great love for the principles of liberty and the Constitution. I am so grateful for the founding fathers and all those who sacrificed so much to make the freedoms I have possible. I want to do everything I can to serve my country and advance the cause of liberty. I enjoy playing and watching all kinds of sports. I enjoy being in the outdoors, camping, hiking, and traveling around the U.S. I did a lot of this in the scouting program, and I was fortunate enough to earn my Eagle Scout. I am currently attending BYU-Idaho and am loving it. I am planning to major in Political Science. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the most important thing in my life. In March of 2013 I will be leaving for 2-years to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the Arizona Tempe Mission. On my mission I will be teaching others about Jesus Christ and letting people know of the great love He has for them. I am very excited for this opportunity, and hope I can serve with all my heart, might, mind, and strength.

Why I am a Mormon

I have found that the greatest happiness and peace in my life, has come when I have obeyed God's commandments and relied on my Savior Jesus Christ. I have read the Book of Mormon, and it is pure truth. Anyone who reads it with an open heart will know that it is of God. It testifies of the divinity of Jesus Christ, and presents gospel principles so clearly, that it dispels all misunderstanding. I have felt the Spirit testify to me that Joseph Smith was a Prophet, and that in a grove of trees, in the spring of 1820, he did see God the Eternal Father, and his son Jesus Christ. The Great Apostasy occurred after all of the Apostles of Christ's time were killed. At that time the proper authority was lost. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored. Prophets, Revelation, and the Priesthood of God are on Earth once more. "The Truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent..", "till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done." I am so thankful for Christ's Atonement, and I am eternally indebted to him. I am thankful for a Prophet on the earth today, who tells us God's will, just as Moses of the Old Testament did. This is the Church of Jesus Christ, and I am so grateful to have this Gospel be a part of my life.

How I live my faith

I live my Faith by being obedient to the commandments of God. His laws are Eternal and unchangeable. No unclean thing can enter into the Kingdom of God. I know that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and through Repentance, we can become clean again. I live my Faith by going to the Temple. Temples are buildings dedicated to the Lord. On each Temple is written the words, "Holiness to the Lord", and "The House of the Lord." In Temples we make sacred covenants with our Heavenly Father. We commit to serve him and keep his commandments. In the Temple we also do ordinance work for the dead. Because many people have died without the opportunity to receive all the blessings the gospel has to offer them, we do Baptisms for the dead and other ordinances by proxy, to make those blessings possible. In the Temple I feel the peace of the Holy Spirit, and I am renewed and fortified. Because of this I always love the opportunity to go to the Temple. I live my Faith by being a worthy Priesthood holder. The Priesthood is the power and authority to act in God's name on the Earth. It is the Power of God. Holding this power is a great responsibility and I hope to always be worthy of it. I seek to do nothing that would disappoint my Savior Jesus Christ. Through the Holy Priesthood God governs his Kingdom on Earth and brings forth the Salvation of Man.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Russel Choules
Yes, we believe the Bible to be the word of God. We believe that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are in complete harmony with each other. I have found this to be true. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Russel Choules
Being baptized is a commandment. It is an essential ordinance. Jesus Christ set the example by being baptized by immersion in the river Jordan. By being baptized we show our willingness to follow him. We are baptized by someone who has God's priesthood authority. In Acts 2:38, Peter says "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Show more Show less
