Hi I'm Sydney

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Oklahoma City. I am a high school history teacher.

About Me

I am a mother of five grown children and grandmother of twenty. I like to garden and read. I especially love to read about history.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was about 21 years old, I was spiritually hungry. I began to explore various avenues. I was not really too interested in organized religion. I was raised in a protestant home but did not feel fullfilled spiritually. I met a friend who felt the same and we began exploring all types of religions. One day we came upon a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I accepted a Book of Mormon and promptly put it on my bookshelf with no desire to read it. But the missionaries fasted and prayed for me to have a desire to read it. One morning, I woke up with an overwhelming desire to read the Book of Mormon. When I started to read it, I could not put it down. I read it through. As I read, suddenly my mind understood why we are here and our purpose on the earth. Things I longed to know. As Nephi taught about Christ - I came to know Christ and suddenly understood the atonement of Christ. I then knew that Jesus Christ was my Savior. That He had power to forgive me of my sins, and I knew that I wanted that atonement in my life. As I read the story of Joseph Smith's first vision, I had a spiritual confirmation that it was true. I love the Church and my Savior. I have been a member now since 1976. It is the best decision that I have ever made. I have enjoyed rich spiritual blessings because of my decision to follow Christ.

How I live my faith

I love serving in the Church. By serving in many church callings I have developed many talents. I currently teach in Relief Society. I have taught in Seminary, Sunday school and primary (the young children's organization). I learned to play the piano because I was the primary president in a small branch so.. we had to have someone play the piano for the children to sing. I developed the talent for that purpose but it has richly blessed my life. By teaching others from the scriptures, I have developed a deep love of the scriptures and it has further deepened by love for the Savior and his children. I love the Lord and try daily to keep his commandments. I try to treat others kindly and as children of our Heavenly Father.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Jesus Christ is the literal Son of God. His birth, life, death, and resurrection fulfilled the many prophecies contained in the scriptures concerning the coming of a Savior. He was the Creator, He is our Savior, and He will be our Judge (see Isaiah 9:6, 53:3-7; Psalms 22:16-18). Show more Show less
