Hi I'm Tom

I have lived most of my life in Arizona. I worked in law enforcement for 39 years. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am a father of five children and have 17 grandchildren. I worked in law enforcement for 39 years. I enjoy researching who my ancestors are and who first settled in America in the early 1600's and mid 1800's. My greatest joy is being with and serving my family.

Why I am a Mormon

During my high school years I had a friend who was a member of the church and was invited to several church functions with him. Later, he was instrumental in encouraging me to attend Brigham Young University to run on their track team. That friend was a wonderful influence on me. Ten years later I was asked by a nonmember neighbor what I thought of the LDS church because he was thinking of taking the missionary discussions. I gave him a recommendation based on my prior experiences. Several weeks later he invited my wife and I to his family's baptism. When I said I woud come, he told me he had invited the missionaries to come to our home (we were not members either)), and he then asked, "You won't turn them away will you?" I was not an easy person to teach about the church. I had become cynical while working in law enforcement and was not easily persuaded. One of my stumbling blocks was the idea of prophets being on the earth, and that Heavenly Father would speak to them. While taking the missionary discussions we were asked to fast and pray about Joseph Smith, and if he was truly a prophet. I really wanted to know for myself. My wife and I fasted and prayed for an answer. When I humbled myself and actually asked Heavenly Father if Joseph Smith was a prophet, a feeling came over me that I could not deny. The feeling was a confirmation, and an answer to my prayerful questions. Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet. Since that time there have been enumerable confirmations of the truths found in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ through the Holy Ghost. I know that Jesus is my Savior and Redeemer. Jesus Christ suffered and died and was resurrected so that all of us who believe on him might be cleansed of wrongs we have done, and return to our Father who is in heaven.

How I live my faith

I have been fortunate to serve in numous positions in the church, inlcuding as a bishop. The positions I have enjoyed the most have been teaching the youth about the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also enjoy doing genealogy work and discovering who my family members are that preceeded me.
