Hi I'm Dawnell

I'm the mother of 2 awesome boys. I taught ESL for several years. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised on a cotton farm in new Mexico, the youngest of 7 children, and learned the value of hard work. My parents were devoted members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught us from our youth to believe in Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. I've played the piano since I was a child and music has always been a big part of my life. Once I saw someone on TV play the piano "upside-down" so I practiced and have done this at many a talent show. I served a mission in Florida and graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA in journalism. After working a year I went back to BYU and pursued an MA in Teaching English as a Second Language. I absolutely loved teaching and realized I had found a profession I truly enjoyed. I taught ESL in Utah, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Arizona. I loved meeting students from around the world, learning about other cultures, and getting to travel to other countries. I yearned to marry and have a family, but I was determined to serve and make the most of my life if i were to remain single. When I was in my mid 30s I moved back to Arizona to be closer to family. Within 3 months I met my wonderful husband and we were soon married. We have been blessed to adopt 2 precious boys -- one from Russia and one from Arizona. I have been a full-time wife and mother since the day we brought our oldest son home. My life is full and happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have seen the blessings it has brought into my life. I was raised in a loving home where we were encouraged to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. We were taught honesty and kindness. We were taught to be prayerful when making decisions and to trust that Heavenly Father would guide us. My parents taught us that we were responsible for our own choices. I was raised in the Mormon faith. I was raised on stories from the Bible and Book of Mormon and have a great love for the scriptures and the lessons we can learn from them to guide us in our own lives. I know God lives. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. I know that God is our Father in Heaven and loves us more than we can even comprehend. I know that the scriptures are true and that they can help us find comfort and peace in this troubled and confusing world. I know that Heavenly Father will guide us as we turn to Him in sincere prayer.

How I live my faith

I've spoken a lot about the home in which I was raised, but it is so much of who I am today. I watched my parents "live their faith" daily. My mother was always having me, as a child, take a plate of dinner or a loaf of homemade bread to the widowed or elderly. She was often giving rides to the homebound or helping them in their homes, even though she had a busy life of her own. It was a tradition on Christmas Eve to have the lonely or elderly over for a big dinner and a Christmas program. I've tried to follow her example and do the same. I've worked with the children, the young women, and the women in our church. I've helped with youth conferences, girls camps, and numerous luncheons and social events for my church. Our family has done a live nativity for the community the past two years and plans to continue this tradition. My church has helped me focus outside of myself and look for opportunities to serve others.
