Hi I'm Dawn

I am a singer, an organizer, a wife, mother and grandmother. A woman of strong convictions. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was raised in a family brought together by remarriage(s) and mixed siblings and thus I was raised in wide range of religious, financial, and moral values. I loved music and found several venues to allow me the joy of music. High school musicals/plays and groups. A band, jazz group, choral group and trio group in college. Various post-college singing ops showed that I also required a real job to pay the bills. Several accounting jobs later, including admin of the Hard Rock Cafe memorabilia in the 80s, I fell into the software field and have worked in the medical software technology for over 25 years. I now work for a major Fortune 500 company as a Director of IT. I have always wanted to have a family of my own - you know, husband, kids, dog, etc. At 31 I met a fabulous man who already had four kids from a previous marriage. Although we wanted kids together, science and age determined we would be unable to conceive. So I enjoy my 'Married them' kids and how much they are a part of our lives. We are now even young but proud grandparents! My husband serves in the Army Reservist so we have had our plans derailed a few times due to deployments. I am proud to be an Army wife. A few years ago, we moved from Texas to Colorado to be closer to our family and watch the grandbabies grow. Nothing is more important that family to me.

Why I am a Mormon

I find that the gospel gives my life clarity and purpose. Like so many out in the world, I looked for the 'why' as I started my life's travels. By the time I was a teen, I had already seen how bad choices made by those around me negatively impacted my life. I hungered for truth and peace. Although born a Mormon, I studied other faiths to determine what was right for me. Through a year of searching, I found it back where I started. The simple, complete truths of the gospel were what my complex life needed. In my 20s, I was a victim of crime in my own home. My faithful father had always taught me that although he was not with me, if I called upon God he would protect me. I called on God to save me and I survived with my life and my virtue intact. I saw God's gift and I redirected my path. What had God saved me for and what would my life purpose be? Thinking beyond daily things helped me to remember life is a journey. Bad happens to good people and I can learn and have purpose from both good and bad situations. And it helps me in try not to repeat or drown in my past mistakes. The gospel has given me more insight through the blessing of scriptures that I can apply to my life's journey. The Bible and Book for Mormon harmonize together to teach me. The blessings of the Atonement allow me to be forgiven for mistakes and start again. I believe in temples - they have eternal focus. As in ancient times they enable us to enjoy the blessings deeper commitments to our Father in Heaven as well as eternal commitments to our family. My family is sealed eternally. My life has been no more difficult or easy than anyone else’s. Through God's support, I have learned that the trials of life (unemployment, infertility, child custody struggles, military deployments, etc.) IS a part of the journey of life and I am not exempt. However, if I endure well, I can grow and my life's purpose can continue. I thank God for believing and supporting me.

How I live my faith

Besides my full time job, I am an Army Reservist wife and a grandmother. In this world of conflict my husband and I have been separated various deployments. During those times, I have served as a Battalion FRG leader and other volunteer roles to support him and the families of those who are serving. I love to find a need to see where I could help make a small change. Besides supporting existing volunteer groups, I have established a 'kid's closet' in two major county hospitals with the purpose of supplying gently used clothing for pediatric patients who need clothing when they are discharged. I have served in my church through youth and adult programs. I lead a 100+ girl’s youth annual camp event as well as various activities within our congregations. During a period of time where I lead a group of young women as the President of the organization, as focused on the girl's personal progress program, we joined efforts in finding ways to help our community. We joined decided to adopt a Senior Center to help them any way they needed for a year. There were so many amazing events that came out of that experience. I love to teach and have taught our adult Sunday School classes for several years. Additionally, I have taught the Women's, Youth and children's organizations. I really love the arts so I have been blessed to be able to directed several productions both within my church as well as in on our community. I have also participated in several community choirs such as the Dallas Symphonic Chorus, Schola Cantorium, and other fabulous organizations. I love to serve in both my church and the community. I have learned that through small things come great miracles. I believe that I am blessed more by these services that the service I give.
