Hi I'm Jonathan

I have a wife and two daughters. I'm a geek. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am surrounded by girls - I have a wife and two daughters. They keep me pretty busy. If you ask my wife to describe me in one word she would say 'geek'. I love technology and also keeping up to date with the current news. I studied Mathematics at university and love numbers. My favourite set of numbers are the primes. At university I remember sitting in a lecture as a professor explained a complicated concept and being blown away as he connected all the major areas of mathematics together in a single equation. To me it felt as another witness that God created everything and that he is over all. I am many things and enjoy to be defined by what I enjoy and what I believe.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the way I feel as I follow the teachings of the Saviour. I have followed the commandments and directions given in The Book of Mormon and also through the prophets and have seen how they have drawn me closer to God and Jesus Christ. As I read from the scriptures and pray I feel close to my God and am given the assurances that the things that I am doing are right and pleasing in his sight. Many years ago as I, for the first time, maturely considered the experiences of Joseph Smith, I felt the clearly recognisable feeling of God confirming to me that what Joseph said was true. Since then frequently I feel that similar assurances that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Book of Mormon was written by ancient prophets and is the word of God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in simple acts of service. When I think of the Saviour and how he lived he looked out for those who stood in need of physical or spiritual help. I hope that as I go through my life that I am able to look out and spot those who are in need of help and then be an instrument in God's hand in helping them out. In my local unit I serve as the Branch President (this is similar to a minister or vicar) and this brings me a lot of happiness. It brings me greater opportunities to serve and help those who are around me. It means that I need to strike the appropriate balance between my work, church service and home life. At times this is not easy, but as I work hard I see how the Lord blesses me to give the correct focus to each of these important areas in my life. At home I love helping my daughters learn about Jesus Christ. One of the things I am most proud of my eldest daughter (she is two) is that she can point and say 'Jesus' when she spots him in paintings.
