Hi I'm Kurt

I am a soldier in the US Army, I love serving my country, but even more my God. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've learned that some of the best things in life have a lot to do with my family. I am married to who could quite possibly be the best wife in the world, and have three awesome children. I am currently serving in the US Army and am on deployment to an undisclosed location. And even though I am separated by thousands of miles from my loved ones, I know that I am doing great things for them, so it makes it all worthwhile. I enjoy reading books, playing video games with my kids, and cooking (guys don't knock it till you try it. Being able to make some really great tasting food for your family is worth a massive amount of "cool points" with your spouse)

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a family that despised Mormons. I was taught to not trust them and that they had everything wrong. Then when I grew older I fell away from religion, I still believed in God but not organized church, mainly because all the churches I tried didn't feel right to me. Then one day I decided to try something new, I went to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and after a few trips I asked the missionaries to come to my home. When I read the Book of Mormon and prayed as they asked me to, I felt something I had never felt before. It's hard to describe what I was experiencing but the closest description would be like being wrapped in a warm blanket, a blanket that warms you from the inside out. Instantly I knew that this Book was real, that the things they were telling me were true, and that I was making a good choice. After I was baptized for the remission of sins and confirmed a member of the Church, I went on to experience many more revelations of truth. I know that this Church is true, and I also believe that the Book of Mormon is True, and if the Book of Mormon is true, then so is everything else in the restored gospel.

How I live my faith

I study the scriptures and pray every day, and every day I learn something new. I like to help others whenever I can because of all the strength and help I have; and continue to; receive from our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ. I have been blessed by being able to teach in Sunday School, be able to lead young men in Boy Scouts, help families in my ward by doing what's called Home Teaching, and have been able to bring many more blessing that I don't have enough room in this block to put it all. Being able to serve in my Church, community, and everywhere I go has made my life so much better and filled with joy.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Kurt
The best way to answer your question is to tell you what I tell everyone else. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS for short. Mormon was a prophet in the Book of Mormon that we read. We are called Mormons because the Book of Mormon is so prevalent in our lives that it has become the Nickname for our religion.
