Hi I'm Tom Chandler

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. My wife and I have 7 children. I teach people to use software. I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I love my wonderful wife and our 7 beautiful children (all ours), two sons-in-law, one grandson and another grandchild on the way. I enjoy using computers and am passionate about helping others get the most out of them. In early 2010 I started a business doing computer training and consulting. Being self-employed keeps me very busy, but I try to put my God and my family first and the Lord has blessed me for doing so.

Why I am a Mormon

My family has been in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 6 generations. I was taught that as a child I could lean on the faith of my parents, but at some point I would have to come to know for myself… At 12 years old I read the Book of Mormon for the first time. I then knelt down and asked God if it was true, but I got no answer. Four years later I read it again. I enjoyed one of the stories about a war between a good captain and an evil tyrant. The good captain, who lost a few battles because he was short on supplies, wrote in a letter, a scathing rebuke to the governor of the land. As a boy of 16 I looked forward to the governor’s response which I was sure would put the captain “in his place.” Instead the governor, who was having his own serious troubles responded with kindness and concern. He “turned the other cheek.” He reached out to the captain and together they beat the evil tyrant. As I read the words of the governor I felt the spirit of the Lord tell me in my mind and in my heart “This book is true - this is how you are supposed to live your life.” Since that time my faith and the doctrines of the church has been challenged many times. Some of those challenges have caused me to have serious doubts. But each time I have researched the issue and prayed for guidance. And each time my faith has been eventually strengthened as the spirit of God has helped me understand what is really right and what is true. I don’t know everything, but I do know God lives, that he answers prayers (see James 1:5) and that he has told me numerous times that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true.

How I live my faith

We have been so blessed, but like most people, my family and I often feel the pressures and stresses of modern day life. Sometimes we get bewildered and maybe a little depressed. But we are comforted as we pray because we know that we don’t have to get through it alone. So many times God has given me reassurance and inspiration. I know that it is through our attempts to work hard and His grace, His enabling power, that we have overcome weaknesses and obstacles.
