Hi I'm Merilee

I have three amazing kids and an awesome hubby . I love to write stories and my name was inspired by a hobbit. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up I always wanted to be a mom and find that perfect guy for me. Both of those dreams came true when I found my husband and had three incredible kids. I spent all of their younger years at home and I truly love being a stay-at-home mom even though I do currently work part time with a photographer now that they are teens/tweens. I graduated from college with a degree in Broadcasting but my true love and ambition is to write. If I have any spare time I'm thinking up stories, plots and characters and have made many friends discussing the art of spinning a good tale. I'm also a big movie fan, but hate how much smut is out pretending to be entertainment in the theaters. One of my favorite films and books is Lord of the Rings, as well as Pride and Prejudice and the Harry Potter Series. There is almost nothing more satisfying to me than a well written story. I love to walk, but I'm not a good runner. I really enjoy hiking but I don't like to camp. A homebody by nature I still strive to push myself out of my comfort zone and visit new places with my family. I'm kind of a chocolate snob, as I prefer the fancier types than the standard fare and I also have a hard time finding a chocolate cake that is up to my standards. I've been called bubbly, dependable, happy, optimistic, cheerful and funny. I am comfortable chatting with almost anyone and am more talkative than almost anyone I've met.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and grew up active in the church. I always wanted to believe but had to find my own understanding of the truth of the gospel. I used to wonder why I had not ever had any miracles, or incredible dramatic events that solidified my testimony until I realized that I had been growing in my understanding and belief in small ways for many years. The Holy Ghost is with you when you are doing what you should, he always has your back. It is when you make a bad choice that you notice the lack of the spirit in your life. My life has been full of blessings that have come from just calmly doing the right thing and little answers to daily-life type prayers that have let me know that the Lord is always there guiding, helping and comforting me. I know that the Book of Mormon is true, not because of some fantastic experience, but just that when I read it I feel the truth of it. It speaks to me in a way no other book save the Bible can. It is the word of God. I also know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Lord has given us prophets today to guide us because he loves us. He loved his people in ancient times and loves us today and by restoring the gospel to the earth he has also restored the way he leads it, through prophets to help us through our modern era. It is hard to explain why one believes, but that is just how faith is. It isn't something you have proof of like a math problem; faith by definition means you have to believe in something that you may not be able to prove but you know is true. I have faith in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and know that the principles of living his gospel bring joy and peace to my life.

How I live my faith

Living the gospel of Jesus Christ can sound overwhelming. We go to church for 3 hours every Sunday and have tons of other activities that seem to fill our time. We're 'not allowed' to do some things the rest of the world is, like drinking and smoking. But those 'rules' are actually things that protect us from addiction and problems and are a blessing. The secret to why much of our membership is as dedicated as they are is that our lay ministry allows our members to learn and grow and become better people by serving each other in a wide variety of duties or callings. By serving each other we learn empathy, find gratitude for our own lives and challenges, and are blessed by those we have a chance to both serve and work with. I have been a teacher to children ages 18 months up to 18 years. I've been a Primary President (over all the kids 18 mo-12), a Young Women's President (over all the young ladies 12-18), and a Cub Scout Den Leader in our local ward (congregation). I've led the choir in our ward, directed youth choirs and sung in choirs. I currently direct the Primary children in singing every week and love to share my love of the gospel through the simple truth of Primary music. Through duties such as these I have learned more about the doctrine than I could ever have by just sitting and listening to a preacher. My talents have been expanded and my understanding multiplied. I try to stand up for modesty, honesty, kindness, and clean language and lifestyle. I hope that non-members would understand that the reason LDS members like to share the gospel with them is not to 'get them' into the gospel, but to share with them the joy and happiness that is in our lives. I know that the gospel makes my life better and happier each day. I hope that by loving and caring for my family and those around me, anyone who wants to know more would feel comfortable asking me to learn more.
