Hi I'm Dan

I am a father of 5 wonderful children, an engineer that helps to make diesel engines, & I enjoy working with Scouts. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a father of five wonderful children and I have an incredible wife. We have been married since 1984. I am from a family of ten children so I have a lot of brothers and sisters. I am also a mechanical engineer that works for Cummins Inc. making diesel engines. I am the corporate technical advisor for Power Cylinders (pistons, piston rings, piston pins, cylinder bores). Because of my position, I consult with people all over the world. Because of that, I have had the chance to visit places all over the world. I have been to places like China, India, Brazil, Sweden, Germany, UK, Italy, Portugal, France, Australia, Denmark, Argentina. Every place I go, I have enjoyed meeting new people and experiencing new cultures. One of my great joys is to work with young men both in our church and through the scouting program. I have been a Scoutmaster, Varsity Coach, and Venture leader. I have enjoyed teaching and training boys and taking them to experience various things they have never done before. I think my favorite activity is to go with the boys on "High Adventure". Last year we went to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. I have taken them backpacking in the Great Smoky mountains and this year I got to go with them to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. I enjoy reading. I really enjoy some of the old classic books.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family of Mormons. My family has been Mormons for many generations. As a result I have been a Mormon all my life. However I have tried to analyze, study, and pray about the religion to see if it is really true. I have studied various religions and enjoy talking with my colleagues about their beliefs and about my beliefs. After all my studies and prayer the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the church that answers my questions. The church has clear answers to questions that I have not found adequately answered in any other religion. On top of that, I have had a number of spiritual experiences throughout my life that have indicated to me about the truth of the church and that it is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Some of the key points that are taught in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that are very important to me but have not been adequately answered in other religions are: - I believe that a loving God, our Father in Heaven would not send us to earth to create such intense bonds of love such as is felt in a family and then break those bonds after this life. - I believe that there is a Hell. However, I cannot believe that a loving God, our Father in Heaven would create a place where some of us that fall slightly short of the mark would be tortured for eternity in a literal lake of Fire and Brimstone. - I believe that a loving God, would not condemn his children that have never heard about Jesus Christ to suffer in Hell for eternity. I believe that all people will have an opportunity to accept Jesus Christ as their savior. - I believe that if God needed prophets back in the times of the Old Testament and the New Testament time that he would still have prophets now. - I believe that a person cannot lead God's work by just going to school and earning a degree. I believe that a person must be called of God directly to do his work.

How I live my faith

I have worked extensively with the Youth in our church. It is this work that I cherish the most. In particular I have helped the Young Men in various capacities. The church combines the Young Men program with the Boy Scout program. I have been a Scoutmaster, Varsity Scout Coach, and Venture Scout Leader. I have really enjoyed teaching the boys a and teaching them about God, religion, and scouting principles. I have enjoyed very much going camping with the boys, going on high adventure, and just associating with the young men I have known. One of the very memorable adventures was when I went with the scouts to the Boundary Waters and spent a week canoeing and camping. It will be an adventure that I will never forget. I also have enjoyed the opportunities that I have had to teach. I have taught all ages at church from the little children to the adults. I really enjoy the opportunity to lead discussion on in depth topics regarding teachings of religion and God. I have worked in almost all organizations in our church, but I get the most personal satisfaction when I am working with the youth or am teaching.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Dan
Mormons believe that God has communicated is words and direction to his children on earth. It is that communication to the prophets of old who wrote those words that constitutes the bible. However the prophets in the Old Testament lived in a very isolated area of the Earth. If God only communicated to those great men, then it would have been impossible for most of the inhabitants on the earth to hear Gods word and as a result it would be impossible for them to accept his salvation through Jesus Christ. It is not reasonable that a loving God would condemn the majority of the world just because they did not happen to live in the correct area of the world. Momons know that God communicates by revelation to his children all over the world because everyone needs his good word as much as the people in living in Palestine. The Book of Mormon is the word of God that was revealed to his prophets in the Americas similar to how he revealed his word to the people in Palestine. The words that he gave to them were pertinent to their times and the circumstances in which they lived just like He did in the Palestine. It is documented in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a testament of God's love to all his children where ever they live and that He is willing to lead and guide use at all times and all places. Everyone will have the opportunity to benefit from the good word of God. Show more Show less
