Hi I'm Alexis

I'm a runner, a reader, and a creator of things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an advertising major at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I grew up in New York and Florida but I now reside in southern Oregon, so I call lots of places home. I'm currently serving a mission in São Paulo, Brazil, but was so blessed to have served 9 months in Michigan previously while waiting for my visa! I'm a big competitor--I grew up in a very sports-oriented family, so I was raised watching football and playing soccer. I love anything active, especially running. Before my mission, I spent a fair amount of time with media, as I love the various storytelling opportunities it presents. Doctor Who, Community, and Survivor are my top favorite television shows as of right now, all for very different reasons! I've always been huge into Harry Potter, and the world of The Lord of the Rings ignited my love for in-depth creativity. The Great Gatsby is another one of my favorite books, as it was the first one I was able to dissect and interpret as an active reader. Essentially, I love a good story.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to converted parents and grew up as the only Mormon in my elementary, middle, and high school. I have since developed a greater understanding of the gospel and with it, a greater testimony. I know that my faith has helped get me through several trials in my life, and I am especially thankful for the power of prayer -- knowing I can communicate with my Heavenly Father even when I'm all alone helps me keep my nerve and confidence in difficult situations. I have found greater appreciation for the truths contained in the gospel through several years of early morning seminary (basically sunday school classes before school) and awesome religion classes at BYU. I know my Father lives and love me and that I will be able to see my family again after this life, and this knowledge brings so much comfort to me! Mostly, the gospel has brough me such peace and joy and fulfillment in this life that I can't wait to share it with others on my mission.

How I live my faith

Throughout my life, I've served in various "callings," or positions of teaching or leadership in the church. I've learned so much from each of these callings and am so grateful for the opportunities I've had to serve and teach through the church. Since then I've been called to serve as a missionary in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Since I'm still waiting to receive my visa to get there, I've been temporarily reassigned to serve in the Lansing, Michigan mission. It's a very exciting, uplifting, and enriching experience... and I never want it to end! After my mission, I intend to implement my faith more in my day-to-day life. I have developed a desire to read from the scriptures daily, as they have blessed my life and helped me come to such great understanding about principles I previously misunderstood. I want to pray more often, with more sincerity and love for my Father in Heaven. I know how important family scripture study and prayer is now, and I intend to continue those habits in my future family life as well!
