Hi I'm Deric

I am a photographer, I am a Tennis player, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Before this, I completed my freshman year of college. I really enjoy photography. I look at it as my way to express myself artisticly since I am not a very good artist. Along with doing freelance photography, I run my own small photography business. I am also a Tennis player. I have pretty much played my whole life. Even though I may not be pro-level, I still really enjoy playing the sport. It is a nice stress reliever when I have had a rough day, or been over-stressed because of school work. I am also a big fan of football. My favorite NFL team is the Buffalo Bills. Even though they have had a really rough couple of years, I stay loyal and true to the team.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because I have chosen to be. Even though I have grown up in the church, I have made all of my own decisions through the years and have grown to know and love my Heavenly Father. I know he is there and has a plan for each and every one of his children. There have been life-threatening instances in my life which have testified to me that God looks out and cares for each and every one of his children. I also know that the Book of Mormon is True. One year for a youth activity, my stake took a trip to Kirtland, Ohio to go see some Church history sites. As we were holding a church meeting in the Kirtland Temple, I had an overwhelming feeling of joy and happiness because of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost testified to me that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and that the Book of Mormon was true. I also know that Jesus Christ lived. He is my Savior and Redeemer. I know he has allowed me to be able to live with my Heavenly Father and family again after this life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving a mission for the Church to help share the knowledge I have of this gospel. The gospel has blessed my life an so many ways the blessing it is to my life. As I am serving my mission, I have been able to see how having faith in Jesus Christ and wanting to be able to be free of sin has blessed so many people.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

There are a ton of blessings that come from reading the Book of Mormon, Bible, and other scriptures. For me in my own life, I have been able to strengthen my belief and testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Christ's original church has been restored today, that Jesus is the Christ and my redeemer, and that Heavenly Father exists. Also as I have read the scriptures, I have been able to better understand and know the great plan that God has for all of his children, also call the Plan of Salvation. I could go on and on about the blessings I have received as I have read the scriptures daily. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Yes, Mormons believe that the Bible and the Book of Mormon are both the word of God. The Bible and Book of Mormon go hand in hand. God knew that over hundreds of years, the Bible would be translated several times and that some of its sacred texts would be lost because of all the translations. Therefore, God also prepared the Book of Mormon, which contains the words of the prophets in America, to be able to clarify scriptures from the Bible. Both the Book of Mormon and the Bible are testaments of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

No. We strongly believe in helping everyone and anyone because we are all sons and daughters of God! If we only helped ourselves, we would not be following the second most important commandment which is "Love thy neighbor as thy self." Show more Show less
