Hi I'm Jessica

I grew up hiking and skiing the Utah outdoors. I love reading and writing. I've worked as a professional journalist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've always loved to write and although most of my personal stuff has been fantasy or science fiction stories, I also enjoy telling the real stories of life. I've played classical piano for 15 years and am now picking up alto saxophone. If you were to see me in a crowd, I would be the one on the fringe, participating in and listening to as many different conversations as possible. I always wanted to serve the Lord as a full-time missionary, and am very grateful to have fulfilled that desire in El Salvador. Dejé la mitad de mi corazón con los salvadoreños.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka the "Mormon Church"), but I'm not a member because I felt pressured to be. I started on the path to gaining my own testimony of the Church when I was 8 years old and decided to be baptized. I felt the Spirit strongly that day, and I felt good about my decision. In the years since then, my testimony has grown. I know this is the church of Jesus Christ in its fulness, and I'm anxious to share it with everyone!

How I live my faith

Currently, I attend a young single adult ward and I love it! It's awesome to have a hundred other people about my age and in the same stage of life all constantly trying to improve and be more like Jesus Christ. One of my personal goals to help me become more like Jesus Christ is to remember every person is a child of God, and to treat everyone with kindness and respect. I love my friends and family and am 100 percent loyal to them. I know that no matter what tragedies or challenges you may face, it is always better to face them with God. I have found happiness, healing and peace through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and I pray that no matter what challenges remain ahead, I will always stay close to Him.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a fancy word for someone's beliefs about the Lord Jesus Christ, and their feelings for Him. For example, you might hear someone say, "I have a testimony that Jesus Christ lives and loves me. I know He is our Savior." I know Jesus is my Savior because whenever I read about Him, I feel in my heart the Spirit testifying to me of His divinity. He really, truly, did die for all mankind. I have felt His presence lift me out of some very dark places. Those sacred experiences are my personal testimony. Show more Show less
