Hi I'm Mel

I'm an eternal project in the making. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom and gamma, married to my high school sweetheart who introduced me to the gospel of Jesus Christ 37 years ago. Traveled the world as an Army wife and have many "soldier sons" that I consider my own. Many hours were spent as a professional volunteer in the Red Cross and serving the military community! Having a beautiful soprano voice provides many opportunities to teach through music but don't like to sing at funerals as my tender soul feels the sadness that comes with the passing of a loved one. I was disowned by my family when I joined the church but am grateful for my parents and what they taught me. Sadly we are still estranged. Life is a journey that I love, be it in good times or bad...it's how we endure it that will get us home. Welcome to my profile!

Why I am a Mormon

I was introduced to the gospel while I was in high school. My parents were very upset and when I left for college and was baptized, my father disowned me. I had enough of a testimony to know that I could not walk away just because my family wanted me to. Through the years I had many opportunities to learn and grow and exercise faith in the teachings of Jesus Christ. I am externally grateful for the gospel and how living it has made me the person that I am. I was able to understand and forgive my parents and grow to appreciate them even more for what they instilled in me. The gospel gives me freedom to choose and strength the help me through trials and tribulations. It has taught me to have patience and a greater love for mankind. I hope to help others come to know the blessings that come from the gospel of Jesus Christ. Take the challenge to search for yourself. Jesus Christ our Savior who atoned for all the sins of the world. Joseph Smith restored His gospel in a time and place directed by the Lord. He translated the Book of Mormon, another testament of Christ. Read it, pray about it and you will come to know as I do that this is His gospel. How grateful I am to be numbered among His followers. May He bless you and yours.

How I live my faith

I have done many things in the church, most of my time was spent working with the children or youth of the Church. I love kids!!! There is nothing more special than to hear children sing to the Lord or tell stories of what they know about Jesus or being kind. Their innocence is angelic. Youth have inner turmoils where they are deciding who they are and what they will become. I was a scout leader who taught them the importance of living the scout law. I am an Eagle scout mentor...tough, with high expectations for the sons of God who sought the rank of Eagle that is only attained by 3% of young men. What joy they bought me. Teaching young women the importance of becoming future wives and mothers while learning how very special they are. Some of my strongest growth of my testimony came from these callings. I take very seriously my stewardship over these sons and daughters of God. I schedule the use of the building now and love my calling as I get to meet Mormons from all over the community. The gospel provides so many opportunities to learn, grow and teach so that our spirits can grow. We can do anything as long as we have faith in ourselves and in the help that our Father in Heaven will give us. Look to God and LIVE!

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

We are what we eat, we act how we dress, we remember what leaves our mouths as it bounces around us forever, and we do what we see. As a parent, the example that I show regarding the sacredness of my body speaks volumes. I am open in my conversations with my children and now my grandchildren especially during the transition times in their lives. I am active in their clothing choices and remind them often to remain pure in heart and mind so that the Holy Ghost can be with them always. Help them understand that they can still be modest and beautiful at the same time. Most importantly, stay connected to them, but allow them to grow and learn. Show more Show less
