Hi I'm Joe

I'm almost done with anesthesiology residency and just had my 4th child. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up all over the place... California, Louisiana, Saudi Arabia, Colorado, Texas. I went to college in Idaho and Utah, then med school in Utah. I served a church mission in Brazil and returned later as a sound technician and translator for a 500 mile adventure race. After the adventure race experience I spent the summer in Juneau, Alaska exploring the beautiful Inside Passage. Ive been married to my beautiful wife for 10 years and we just had our 4th child! Times are busy as I finish up my anesthesiology residency and prepare for the next phase of our life. I love the mountains and all the activities associated with them - skiing, 4-wheeling, mountain biking, hiking, camping, snowmobiling, and the list goes on. As John Muir said "The mountains are calling and I must go"

Why I am a Mormon

My ancestors on my dad's side were converted to the mormon faith in Denmark in the 1800's. One of the sons was asked to stay in Denmark and fulfill a mission - he was promised that if he did this, his family would make it safely to Utah with the other pioneers. This promise was kept and the family made it across the plains with the other Pioneers as part of the Martin and Willie Handcart companies. I was born a member of the church, but was not truly converted until I was 19 yrs old and I finally read the Book of Mormon for the first time all the way through prior to leaving for Brazil on my mission. I prayed to my Heavenly Father and asked him if it was true and I felt it in my heart and mind that it was and is the word of God. I had always believed the Bible was true and the Book of Mormon confirmed my belief. Those two books along with the Doctrine and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price contain the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. My missionary experience in Brazil changed my life forever. Serving and loving those people strengthened my testimony as we taught them about Jesus Christ and His role as our Redeemer and Savior. Jesus Christ made it possible for us to overcome death and sin so that we could return to live with our Heavenly Father and our families forever. All we have to do is be obedient to all of God's commandments and we will reap eternal joy and happiness. My motivation for doing better everyday comes from the deep belief that if I make righteous choices while on earth (as long as I am obedient to God's commandments) and do my best, that I will be able to live with my family eternally after this earth life is over.

How I live my faith

I have worked with boys of scout age (8-17) for quite some time. I am an eagle scout myself and really enjoyed the scouting program when I was growing up. I currently work with the cubscouts (8-10 yr olds) as the Cubmaster. It is a very rewarding experience to serve in the community and to be a part of molding and shaping these young boys lives (especially since my son is one of the cubscouts!). Being a member of the church has afforded me many rewarding opportunties to serve my neighbors and community.
