Hi I'm Ian

I'm an adopted musician, turned banker, turned teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A little bit about me is that I am a happily married man to my wife and I have 2.8 children (one on the way in December!) I am working as an elementary teacher, and I love my job! Some of my hobbies outside of work are reading, playing sports with my kids, loving my wife, and spending time with extended family. Oh, and I have a few pets that I enjoy playing with as well!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon by choice. I was adopted by two individuals who were unable to have children of their own and they raised me in the Mormon church. They had converted a few years before adopting me. I am grateful that they did and I know that Gods hand helped bring our family together. I still say that I am a Mormon by choice because like most people, I had to make a choice when I grew up as to whether I would continue with the religion of my youth. I thought about it long, I prayed for guidance and I know that I have felt God's spirit confirm to me that this is his church here on earth. Time and time again, as I served as a missionary for my church and in my life since, I have felt that same power working in my life and re-confirming the correctness of my choice. I know that Joseph Smith Jr. was much like us when he was a boy and that in answer to his humber prayer, he did in fact see God the Father and Jesus Christ. He was called as a Prophet to re-establish Gods church on the earth. This restored gospel is a collection of all of the truths found throughout so many other religions in the world today. I know that God continues to speak to us today through Prophets as he did in the past because he loves us just as he loves those individuals who lived thousands of years ago. I also know that through his power, I have a certainty that regardless of what happens to me in this life, I can live with my family for time and all eternity. I do my best to live the gospel of Jesus Christ, imperfect as I am. I hope that I am representative of my beliefs as I try to be. I don't hope to convince others of what I know to be true. I don't have that ability as only God can touch someone's heart in that way. I do invite questions and hope that I might be a springboard that leads to curiousity which will help people to make the decision to ask of God what his will is. That is the least I can do because of all that I have received in my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a variety of ways. I currently serve in my church by teaching 12-13 year old boys how to be more Christlike and understand the gospel of Christ more. I am also an Assistant Scout Leader to these same boys in the Boy Scouts which is a very prominent part of our young mens program. I visit families on a monthly basis to teach, help, and try to meet any needs they might have. I strive to be a proper example of a God-fearing father for my children and an example to all of those who know me. I speak with God through prayer to discuss my trials and my successes. He is my Father, but He is also my Friend and Confidant. If I do nothing else in this life, it will be enough to know that I have done all I can to return to his presence.
