Hi I'm Zach

I was raised in Las Vegas and I'm now a student of podiatric medicine. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love the outdoors and try and to go fishing as much as I can. Just recently I graduated from college where I helped with the fly fishing class. I studied a lot and spent a bunch of time catching trout on the local river that ran through my college town. I also love to go hunting with my brothers and Dad. Our family is really tight-knit and we enjoy many fun traditions and outings like going to Alaska fishing for salmon, Disneyland, and snowboarding. I have 16 nieces and nephews so I do a lot of fun activities with the kids like catching lizards, bugs, and rainbow trout. My mom is a busy grandma and takes care of all her little grandkids. I am single and attend medical school. Currently I am studying podiatric medicine and hope to be a great surgeon in the future.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up a Latter-day Saint in a very interesting city: Las Vegas. Many people ask me how I didn't get caught up in the flashy worldly ways of Vegas, and I tell them it's because of my church and my family. I learned from an early age that life on earth was a brief time away from my Heavenly Father, and that I could return to Him and our heavenly home if I chose the right and accepted my Savior's mercy. My parents taught me right and wrong. When I would make a bad decision as a young kid my mother would quickly remind me that my Heavenly Father was sad when I made those poor choices. My family and the Church taught me of my relationship with God. He is the Father of our spirits. I learned to speak to Him in prayer. I know He listens. So many times He has given me direct answers to prayer. In particular, I have prayed many times to know of the truthfulness of this Church. Each time the Lord has spoken to my soul with feelings of joy that, yes indeed, it is true. This Church has taught my family to live close to the Lord, and doing so has shielded us from the filthy worldly influences that constantly beg our attention. Jesus Christ is our Savior. He will save us from the evil that constantly tries to ruin our lives. If we stay true to His word as taught in this His true and living Church, we will overcome evil and be happy with our family in eternity.

How I live my faith

I attend a single's congregation of college students ages 18-30. We have many fun activities that we do together. Several weeks ago we went to the lake and went wakeboarding and had a big dance on the lakeshore. My job in this congregation is to prepare food for the whole group after our Sunday meetings. After the last hour of Church we eat food and mingle as friends before we go home. Additionally, I do service projects every once in a while for the the American Diabetes Association with my colleagues from medical school. We have volunteers that are both members and non-members of my church. I also have the assignment in the congregation to visit and teach five individuals at their homes. Every month my teaching companion and I go to their home, share a lesson about Christ, pray, and check to see if there is any way we can serve them. One of the most unique experiences of teaching is using the priesthood. The priesthood is the power of God given by authorized servants of the Lord to give blessings to other people. When the kids I teach have a bad week and everything seems to be crashing down on them, they can ask us to use the priesthood to give them a blessing. College can be really tough on them and it is hard because they don't have their fathers around to comfort, protect and bless them. Each time I give a blessing there is a great sense of peace. These experiences make me love worshiping with my fellow young single friends. Lastly, it's always nice having a fantastic group of awesome young women to associate with. Dating here is good because you can associate with wonderful girls that hold high standards and love the Lord too.
