Hi I'm Sara Barlow

I'm a wife. A mother of a young growing family. I love learning, experiencing new things & cultures. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Before I got married...I went to college on a vocal scholarship. I wanted to change majors. I took a break from school and lived in China for 4 months and taught English at a boarding school. I then came home to Arizona, did more schooling and worked. I then decided to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (mormons). I was sent to Hawaii where I lived and served the people of the islands for 18 months. I wish I was a local ;-) I came home and started working for the ANASAZI Foundation: a wilderness survival program to help struggling youth to turn their lives around and find joy in living good, wholesome, successful lives. I then moved to Utah to help my sister during a family crisis. While there I did all I could to help my family. I also worked as a substitute at a local elementary school, went door-to-door selling Aerating Lawn services, sold Christmas trees and found myself working for another wilderness survival program helping struggling youth. I met my husband, moved to Arizona and worked at a Family Practice office. I'm now a wife and mother. I've dedicated myself to learning how to improve as both. We are a young family. My husband is still attending school to meet his career goal as an MRI tech. I love getting to know and learning about others lives, cultures, backgrounds, talents, abilities etc. I like learning from others and their experiences in life. I enjoy blogging and sharing the stories of our life. I love life!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by Mormon parents. Generations of my family history are Mormons. However, each must come to KNOW for themselves what is right, what is true, which path is God's and honestly, which church is God's. I came to these crossroads a handful of times in my life. I have early childhood memories of praying to Heavenly Father and receiving answers to my prayers. This helped me to form a relationship of trust with Heavenly Father and the confidence that he would answer my prayers. I knew that what I was learning at church was good, I could feel that, I felt peace as I followed God's commandments. I could see the positive examples around me and felt of the goodness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ I was raised in. But, there are good people EVERYWHERE! There are positive influences all around us. Many religions are filled with goodness and worship Christ. So....where did that lead me? The same place I believe that all people are lead. We're lead with questions to the Lord, the only source of truth. What questions? There are some MAJOR things that set apart "Mormons" from other Christian beliefs. The questions I asked the Lord address these major things. Once you know they're true, then all other questions are answered simply because they're true. 1-The Book of Mormon. This is NOT a replacement of the Bible. It is a separate book of Scripture that supports the Bible. The question...Is the Book of Mormon true? Is it from God? When you know for yourself that it's true then Joseph Smith, who translated it, must be a Prophet of God. 2-Joseph Smith the Prophet claimed to see God the Father and Jesus Christ in a vision. They said he would be the Prophet to help restore Jesus Christ's church upon the Earth again. The question...Is Joseph Smith a true prophet chosen by God to restore Christ's church? When you know that he was then all that was revealed through him is true. Thus, in 2 questions YOU can know, as I know, that all contained in this religion is true and from God.

How I live my faith

I'm SO not perfect, but my desires and efforts are how I strive to live my Faith. I want to live right, I want to live so that others will want to know Jesus Christ. I want to ensure that what I do each day is the Lord's will and part of his plan. That is a lot to strive for and I don't always do it well. In John 14:15 we are taught "If ye love me, keep my commandments". The two great commandment given to us in Matthew 22:37-39 are "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." One way that we can show our love is to serve. In my local church (called a Ward) I serve by leading the Hymns that we sing each Sunday. Music is so powerful! It can unite people, touch peoples hearts and inspire people in ways that nothing else can. I love being able to help others to worship and praise Jesus Christ through song. I also volunteer to sing in our Ward Choir. Another way that I serve in my Ward is through what we call Visiting Teaching. It is organized so that each woman 18 years and older has 2 other woman assigned to them as their visiting teachers. Each month I go see my "sisters" and we talk, share stories and updates on life, we also share with them the lesson given to us from our church leaders. I also want to be there for them when they need a helping hand, or a shoulder to cry on, or anything that I can do to help them in their lives. I hope and desire that I can do this for my family and friends as well. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I love God's children (all who are born to this earth). I aim to show this by the way I live and serve.
